Internships

Internships are a valuable part of the college experience. This “on the job” experiential education allows students to explore a profession without the commitment of a career.
An internship is an opportunity for students to receive valuable experience while achieving academic outcomes under the guidance of a business mentor who is experienced, knowledgeable, and capable of advising the student.
Students reinforce their education by gaining real-world practice, strengthening technical abilities, instilling ethical and collaborative behaviors, and building confidence while developing realistic expectations about the workforce domain.
In exchange, the organization receives quality work from an academically prepared and business-world-ready student trained to be professional, knowledgeable, communicative, and helpful.
Internships are typically comprised of college-level students who work for a company in a temporary position with an emphasis on on-the-job training. Internship opportunities usually vary with the level of responsibilities and duties assigned. They vary in structure: they may be for college credit or not for credit, short or long term, and part or full time.

What are the benefits of an internship?
Internships provide you with the opportunity to experience firsthand how classroom education relates to real-world situations. They enable you to apply practical classroom knowledge alongside professionals within your field of study and gain career experience while still in college.
Internships are an excellent way to build your resume, while at the same time developing relationships that can help you explore career opportunities after graduation. They also allow you to test-drive a career field of interest to help you determine if there's a fit there, or if you should keep exploring.
Academic Internships
Not all internships qualify for academic credit in the Rollins College of Business and not all student interns are eligible to receive academic credit. Each internship is evaluated for academic integrity for approval into the Academic Internship Program (BUS3900). Each intern is also evaluated.
- Students must have junior standing (60 earned credit hours); meet a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 (note that employers often require a stronger GPA for internship candidacy);
- Students must meet the approval of both the Internship Manager (Jaclyn York) and your Department Head who hold the discretion to grant or refuse credit;
- Students must meet certain upper level business credit prerequisites for their specific business major.
- Credit cannot be provided for past internships.
Arrange a meeting with Jaclyn York for more information.
Internship Symposium
At the close of every semester, students participating in an academic internship gather at the Internship Symposium to present a short presentation on their experience and learning.
Students, faculty, and employers are welcome to attend. For details, please contact Jaclyn York, Internship Manager for the Rollins College of Business.
