Student Managed Investment Learning Expierence (Smile)

The SMILE Fund is a student-led investment fund at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, aimed at expanding students' skills in portfolio management, investment strategies, and equity valuation while increasing the fund's value.

About the SMILE Fund

The SMILE Fund started in 2015 with just $250,000 from the UC Foundation. The fund has now grown to over $3.5 million in assets under management.

The purpose of the fund is to provide select UTC students the opportunity to manage a real stock portfolio for a real client. It also equips students with a proficient knowledge of portfolio management, investment strategies and equity valuation techniques.

Explore roles

The SMILE Fund is managed as a typical mutual fund, just like a real investment firm. Managers are expected to create investment strategies that grow the value of the fund. Members hold various roles based on their experience – from junior analyst up to chief analysts.
