2020-2021 Stophel Distinguished Students
The Rollins College of Business John C. Stophel Distinguished Student Award is presented annually to recognize high potential business students who have made significant and meaningful civic contributions to UTC and the Rollins College of Business while maintaining a strong academic record.
Students must provide evidence of exceptional extracurricular leadership and community service. Community engagement evidenced by a pattern of strong contributions to the Rollins College of Business, UTC, civic organizations is highly valued, as well as activities resulting in lasting impact and quantifiable results. Award recipients must be an undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Business.
Below are the 2020-2021 John C. Stophel Distinguished Students.
Allysyn is a senior in the Rollins College of Business from Athens, TN. She will be graduating in May 2021 with a degree in Marketing.
While at UTC, Allysyn has prioritized academics and campus involvement. She began her time at UTC in the Business Living Learning Community, where she discovered her passions and career goals. She then began serving as a student ambassador through the Dean's Student Advisory Council, where she actively participates in College sponsored events. Allysyn was also named an Outstanding Marketing Student in 2020 for her high performance in the classroom.
Allysyn is a member of Chi Omega and served as Treasurer and later the Director of Community Service for the panhellenic organization. Throughout her time at UTC, she has actively volunteered with Make-A-Wish, the Chattanooga Food Bank, and St. Jude Up 'Til Dawn.
She currently works as a Financial Services Intern at Tennessee Valley Authority. After graduation, Allysyn plans to pursue her MBA and hopes to find a job where she will be challenged, pushed to grow and develop professionally, and encouraged to continue giving back to the community.
Jannia is currently a senior in the Gary W. Rollins College of Business and plans to graduate in December with a degree in Business Management and a minor in Chemistry. She is from Lawrenceburg, TN.
During her time at UTC, Jannia has found many ways to engage with the community both on and off campus. In her first year, she was a member of the Campus and Community Service committee within Freshman Senate. Through this she was given many opportunities to give back to the residents of Chattanooga and establish lasting relationships between them and the students of UTC. She also participated in ThinkAchieve and is currently a member of the Dean's Student Advisory Council. On the weekends, she also connects to the Chattanooga community by volunteering at Silverdale Baptist Church.
After graduation, Jannia plans on attending medical school to pursue a career in Pediatrics or Obstetrics and Gynecology. With her Management degree earned through the Rollins College of Business, she plans to own a medical practice upon completion of her doctorate and residency programs.
Kim is a senior in the Rollins College of Business majoring in Business Analytics with a minor in Personal Finance.
While at UTC, Kim has engaged in the College's organizations in a variety of ways. She has served as an ambassador and advisory representative on the Dean's Student Advisory Council. She has also served as a lead analyst for the SMILE Fund which is managed by students as a real investment firm. Kim also gained real-world business experience through an internship with the Communication of Vincent Ivan Phipps and worked to collect data for marketing and managing conference bookings.
Recently, Kim has been hired as a Research Associate Intern for the Solution Scholars program in the Rollins College of Business. After graduation, Kim plans to go to graduate school for Data Science. She also hopes to find an internship or a part-time job where she can demonstrate her attention to leadership and data analysis skills.
Anna is currently a senior in the Rollins College of Business and plans to graduate in May with degrees in Marketing and Entrepreneurship.
Anna has participated in ThinkAchieve, MocLead I & II, and the Women's Leadership Academy in 2019. She has had the opportunity to experience international business through studying abroad in Paris, France, and Cape Town, South Africa. She is currently an ambassador for the Dean's Student Advisory Council and has been an ambassador for the Honors College as well as the Chancellor's Office. She is currently President of the Student Advancement Council.
She is currently working at the Tennessee Small Business Development Center where she helps with marketing and day-to-day office work in support of growing local small businesses.
After graduation, Anna plans on finding a position in the health, beauty, or wellness industry where she can demonstrate her love for living a healthy lifestyle coupled with being business-minded.
Jacob is currently a senior in the Rollins College of Business and plans to graduate in December with a degree in Finance. He is from Ethridge, TN.
During his time at UTC, Jacob has been involved in many organizations on campus and in the Chattanooga community. In his freshman year, he was a member of the Business Living Learning Community and was recognized with its Outstanding Leadership Award for the 2019 cohort, served as Freshman Senate Treasurer, and was a member of the Chancellor's Student Advisory Board. Jacob joined the SMILE Fund where he has served as Lead Analyst, Vice President of Market Analysis, and currently serves as President and Chief Investment Strategist. He has also worked as a student ambassador through the Dean's Student Advisory Council for three years and is Captain of the 2021 CFA Institute Research Challenge Team.
Jacob has interned with TVA in the EnergyRight Solutions group in financial services and is currently a research intern for Acumen Wealth Advisors. He has accepted a summer internship with Dollar General Corp. in Financial Planning and Analysis. After graduation, Jacob intends on pursuing an MBA while working in finance.
Hannah is currently a junior and will be graduating in May of 2022 with a degree in Accounting. She is from Franklin, TN.
As a student at UTC, Hannah has been an active member of the community within a variety of organizations. She has participated in the Institute of Management Accountants as well as Cru weekly events. She has held positions within the Nu Beta chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta such as the director of community service where she worked with the surrounding community and the local Meals on Wheels. Currently, she is the Vice President of Campus Relations for Nu Beta chapter and a senator within the Student Government Association.
After graduation, Hannah plans to continue her education by obtaining her Masters of Accountancy as well as CPA licensure.
