Singing Mocs

The UTC Singing Mocs is a highly select choir devoted to a cappella choral singing in a variety of contemporary and popular music styles, including commercial/pop, vocal jazz, soul, musical theatre, and more! Singing Mocs performs one major on-campus concert per semester, plus several additional smaller performances on and off campus throughout the year. The group is open to students from all majors, but auditions are required. If you would like to inquire about auditions or have any other questions, email the director at [email protected].

Audition Information

Auditions are typically held on the first day of classes each semester, only when there are open spots to be filled. To find out if auditions will be held, contact the director.

For the audition, you will need to prepare one verse and chorus of a song of your choosing—one that you feel best displays your vocal abilities. Keep in mind that this is a contemporary commercial choir, so popular music styles are expected. Be prepared to sing your prepared solo a cappella (without accompaniment). That is all you’ll need to prepare in advance, though FYI, the rest of the audition will include some scales and arpeggios to test your vocal range, as well as some demonstrations of your sight-reading and aural skills
