Dr. Lynn Worcester Jones is a dedicated performer-scholar and serves as Assistant Professor, Keyboard Area Coordinator at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where she teaches applied piano, survey of piano repertoire, piano pedagogy, piano ensemble and musicianship lab. She is a versatile artist who maintains an active solo and collaborative performance career. Beginning her piano studies at the age of four with her mother, she has performed solo and chamber recitals throughout the United States, Italy and Vienna. She has won numerous national awards and prizes and has performed with members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and in numerous international summer festivals including the Vienna International Piano Academy, Vienna Music Seminar at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Austria, Tyrolean International Piano Academy (Innsbruck) and the Atlantic Music Festival. Dr. Jones has performed as a collaborative pianist with artists in two-piano and chamber ensembles and enjoys performing works by living women composers. In February 2020, she will perform a concert featuring Women Composers of the Past and Present in February at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and College Music Society Southern Conference with guest artist Dr. Andrew White.

 

Dr. Jones is regularly invited to speak, moderate, and present at professional conferences and events. In 2020, Dr. Jones will be presenting “Repertoire Swaps: Advocating for Women Composers through Intermediate through Early Advanced Romantic and Impressionist Solo Piano Repertoire,” at the MusicEdConnect International Music Teachers On-line Conference, her lightning talk, “Priming Gen Z to Save the Arts: Campaigning for Undergraduate Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy Major” at the MTNA Group Piano and Piano Pedagogy Conference. In 2019 Dr. Jones presented “Clara Schumann and 200 Years of Influences on Female Pianists and Composers” at the Tennessee Music Teachers State Conference and co-presenting a panel discussion on “Apply for Your Dream Job! Navigating the Academic Job Market” at the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy in Lombard, IL. In 2018 she served as Moderator for the “Networking Split Session on Graduate School” at the MTNA Collegiate Chapters Symposium, presented “A 10-Item Checklist for Teaching Technique in the Group Piano Classroom,” a Lightning Talk at the National Group Piano and Piano Pedagogy Forum (GP3) in Oberlin, OH, and served as Program Chair for the 2018 College Music Society Great Plains Regional Conference. She has presented one of her popular workshops titled “Do vs. Don’t: The Power of Language in Teaching” at the Georgia Music Teachers Association State Conference (November 2017), and at the annual California Association of Professional Music Teachers State Conference (October 2017). She has presented "How to Approach New Repertoire: Solutions for Successful Teaching," at the Iowa State Music Teachers Annual State Conference (June 2017), for the Northeast Area Music Teachers Association (September 2017), and the Chattanooga Music Teachers Association (October 2018). Other workshop presentations include “Strategies for Maintaining an Organized Group Piano Classroom,” presented at the Great Plains Regional Conference of the College Music Society (March 2017); “Improvisation Techniques for the Intermediate to Advanced Pianist,” presented with Patrick Jones at the Georgia Music Teachers Association State Conference (GMTA, November 2016); and “Music Wellness for the Advanced Pianist,” presented at GMTA (November 2015).

 

Dr. Jones produces a wide range of academic writings published in leading keyboard journals including articles, conference reports, and recorded interviews. Her article “Campaigning for College Music Study” was published in the Oct/Nov 2019 issue of American Music Teacher and “Spencer Myer: 21st-Century American Pianist” was published in the Jan/Feb 2019 issue of Clavier Companion. In April 2017, Piano Pedagogy Forum published her work, "A Review of Studies on Piano Performers and Pedagogues" from her dissertation, “Allison Nelson: Pianist, Teacher, and Editor.” Her conference reports include the 2017 Proceedings of the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy and the 2016 GP3 Forum published in the MTNA e-journal.

 

Dr. Jones is a dedicated educator and has earned the MTNA Professional Certification designation of a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music (NCTM). Dr. Jones also maintains an active and high-achieving private piano studio and has taught in California, Texas, Oklahoma, Georgia, Iowa, and Tennessee. From 2013-2016, she was on piano faculty at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lake, Michigan. While in Iowa, she served on the Iowa Music Teachers Association Executive Board as Foundation Chair. Currently, Dr. Jones serves on the Tennessee Music Teachers Association Executive Board as Junior Piano Competitions Chair. At The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, she directs the annual UTC Piano Arts Competition.

 

Dr. Jones earned the Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Oklahoma, a Master of Music in Piano Pedagogy and Performance from Baylor University, and a Master of Music in Piano Performance from California State University, Fullerton where she also earned her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance. She has studied piano and piano pedagogy with Jane Magrath, Barbara Fast, Krassimira Jordan, Lesley McAllister, Eduardo Delgado, and Martha Baker-Jordan.
