Group Swim Lessons

2026 Program Updates!

We want our program to get better each and every year - we heard your feedback from Summer 2025 and are making changes!

  1. Day 1: Evaluation Day
    • Swimmers complete a brief evaluation on the first day to ensure proper placement.  Instructors assess ability and water safety, then group swimmers by skill level. (Preschool Levels 1-3 or Learn to Swim Levels 1-6) for safe and effective instruction.
  2. Days 2, 4, 6 & 8: Parent/Guardian Feedback Days
    • Parent/guardian feedback days give families a chance to connect with instructors and learn how their swimmer is progressing.  During these days, instructors share highlights, skill development, areas for growth, and may suggest simple techniques or "homework" families can practice outside of class.  These check-ins celebrate progress, support continued improvement, and keep swimmers moving confidently toward their next goals.

Parent & Child

Parent and child swim lessons are designed for children aged 6 months – 3 years of age to become comfortable in and around the water so that they will be ready to learn to swim in the future. It is also a good fit for children with special needs and those who are especially timid or fearful up to age 5. This class offers a safe and gentle introduction to water in a supportive environment. Parents learn essential water skills and safety topics while laying the foundation for future aquatic skills. This class prioritizes water safety and preparing children for advanced swimming skills. Please note that Parent and child lessons require an adult to accompany each child in the water during the entire class, and swim diapers are required for all children who are not fully potty trained.

Preschool Swim Lessons (Levels 1-3)

Designed for children ages 3-5, our preschool lessons introduce young swimmers to the water in a fun, supportive environment.  Instructors focus on water comfort, basic safety skills, and beginning swim movements through games, songs, and guided practice.

Swimmers will learn skills such as water entry and exit, blowing bubbles, floating with support, kicking, and basic arm movements.  As they progress through levels 1-3, children build confidence, independence in the water, and the foundation needed for future swimming skills.

Our goal is to help preschoolers feel safe, comfortable, and excited about being in the water while developing the early skills that lead to strong swimming ability.

Preschool Level 1 - Water Introduction

For beginners with little or no water experience.  Swimmers focus on becoming comfortable in the water, blowing bubbles, supported floating, and basic water movement.

Instructor to Participant Ratio: 1:4

Preschool Level 2 - Water Exploration

For swimmers who are comfortable in the water with assistance.  Participants practice front and back floating with support, kicking, submerging, and beginning independent movement.

Instructor to Participant Ratio: 1:4

Preschool Level 3 - Water Confidence

For swimmers who are more comfortable in the water and ready for greater independence.  Swimmers work on floating with less support, basic arm and leg movements, and beginning short swims with assistance.

Learn to Swim (Levels 1-6)

Our program is designed for school-age swimmers who are ready to build confidence, develop strong water safety habits, and learn proper swimming skills.  Through progressive levels, participants move from basic water comfort and floating skills to learning and refining the four competitive strokes.

Swimmers will develop skills such as floating, gliding, kicking, and coordinated arm movements before progressing to freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly techniques.  As swimmers advance through the levels, they also build endurance, improve stroke efficiency, and gain greater independence in the water.

This structured program helps swimmers grow at their own pace while building the confidence and skills needed to be safe and successful in the water.

Level 1 - Introduction to Water Skills

Introduces basic aquatic skills, which participants continue to build on as they progress through Learn to Swim.  In addition participants start developing positive attitudes, effective swimming habits, and safe practices in and around the water.  Learn to Swim Level 1 reinforces Preschool Level 1 and 2 skills.

Level 2 - Fundamental Aquatic Skills

The objective of this level is to give participants success with fundamental skills.  Many of the skills taught in this level reinforce and build upon the skills taught in Preschool Level 3.  This level marks the beginning of true locomotion skills.  Participants learn to glide and float without support and recover to a vertical position.  Participants further develop simultaneous and alternating arm and leg actions on the front and back, laying the foundation for future strokes.  New water safety topics are introduced, and previously acquired water safety knowledge and skills are reinforced.

Level 3 - Stroke Development

Participants will expand proficiency of previously learned skills by providing additional guided practice.  They will learn and practice survival floating and learn to swim front crawl and elementary backstroke at rudimentary proficiency levels.  We will introduce the scissors and dolphin kicks and extend the time duration for treading water.  Participants also learn rules for head first entries and begin to learn to enter the water headfirst from a seated position at poolside.  Individuals who successfully complete Level 3 have achieved basic water competency in a pool environment.

Level 4 - Stroke Improvement

Individuals will improve their aquatic skills and increase their endurance by swimming the strokes learned in Level 3 for greater distances and with more proficiency.  We will begin to learn the back crawl and butterfly and the basics of performing a simple open turn at a wall.

Levels 4-6 Grouping:  These swimmers share strong foundational skills and focus on refining strokes and endurance.  Grouping these Levels allow instructors to provide individualized challenges within one class, helping swimmers progress safely and efficiently at their own pace.

Level 5 - Stroke Refinement

In this Level, individuals will refine their performance of all six strokes and increase the distances that they swim.  Additional skills learned are how to perform flip turns on the front and back.

Levels 4-6 Grouping:  These swimmers share strong foundational skills and focus on refining strokes and endurance.  Grouping these Levels allow instructors to provide individualized challenges within one class, helping swimmers progress safely and efficiently at their own pace.

Level 6 - Swimming and Skill Proficiency

Level 6 offers three options to meet specific needs and interests:  Personal Water Safety, Fundamentals of Diving, and Fitness Swimmer.  These options focus on preparing participants for more advance courses such as the Water Safety Instructor course, or other aquatic activities such as competitive swimming or diving.
