2025-2026 Incoming Freshman and Transfer Application opens December 2, 2024.

Whether you are a first time college student or transferring to UTC, we are glad you are here! Below you will find information on our housing application and the room assignment process.

25-26 Incoming Student Housing Assignment Process

Check your MOCs email after 5pm on the designated assignment dates. Once assigned you have 4 days to confirm (by the following Sunday).

Freshmen Live On Requirement

• All first year students are required to live on-campus. 
• Should on-campus housing space become filled, we will continue to assign as space comes available.

Residency Exception

• Incoming freshmen students may apply for a Residency Exception if they: live within a 45 mile radius with a parent or legal guardian, are married, have a child(ren), and/or have medical condition preventing them from living in a campus environment.
• Residency Exceptions are only permitted prior to the start of the Academic Year. Students who apply for Academic Year housing are signing a contract for the academic year both Fall and Spring semesters. 
• Log in to Manage My Housing to complete the Residency Exception Request form.

1 - Before Applying for Housing

UTC ID

• In order to complete a housing application you must be admitted to the university and have set up your UTC ID and password.
• Your UTC ID consists of three letters and three numbers (abc123) provided in your acceptance packet.
• To set up your UTC ID and Password go to UTC Password Management and follow the New User instructions.
• Please note it may take a day or two after being admitted to be able to log in to the Manage My Housing system.

    • 2 Bedrooms (shared) 1 bath  for 3 residents

• Room Type preferences are not guaranteed and are subject to availability.

*Majority of our freshmen housing is in a shared bedroom, however, know that as an upperclassman (sophomore-senior) the majority of housing options are private bedrooms in an apartment.

*Freshmen are also assigned to Residential Learning Communities housed in specific sections of upperclassmen buildings, such as: Decosimo, Stophel, Walker, and UCF.

Review Meal Plan Options

• All freshmen and sophomores who live on campus are required to purchase a meal plan. This is based on credit hours earned:

  • If your credit hours change after a semester ends resulting in your classification changing, you may log in to Manage My Housing  to update your meal plan preference.
  • The university classifies undergraduate students as freshmen, sophomores, juniors or seniors according to the number of credit hours the student has completed
    • Freshman: 0-29 semester hours
    • Sophomore: 30-59 semester hours
    • Junior: 60-89 semester hours
    • Senior: 90 or more semester hours

Communication between Housing and Students

All communication is through the STUDENT’S UTC email account! If you have questions you may call 423-425-4304 or email [email protected] from your UTC email account. We would like to remind you how quickly our housing fills. It is important for you to apply for housing as soon as you are accepted into the University. 

2 - Submit Application or Residency Exception

Log in to Manage My Housing using your UTC ID and password

Click Apply for Housing, then select the Academic Term 2024/2025 OR Residency Exception 

For the housing application, continue through the steps and pay the $25 application fee at the end. This is a One-time, non-refundable fee and you may use a Debit or Credit Card - VISA or MasterCard.

The Transfer Housing Application may close by May 1st dependent on availability. 

3 - Roommate Preference and Matching 

Roommate Preferences

• Do you know someone attending UTC? Would you like to live with them? If so, exchange full names and UTC IDs. 
  • Students will be able to create roommate groups up to 4.
  • Incoming freshmen can only be matched with incoming freshmen or incoming transfer students.
  • Only mutual requests will be considered. All students in the group must accept the request.
  • Groups should be established prior to any student receiving an assignment. Adding a student to a group who is already assigned will not place them in the room with the rest of the group.

Roommate preferences are not guaranteed and are subject to room availability.

Roommate Groups can be set up after you submit your application but before an assignment round.

One person will need to initiate the roommate group.

You will only be able to set up roommate groups with other students who have completed their housing application.

Once the roommate group has been started through Manage My Housing, each person will receive an email to accept the request to join the roommate group. Once accepted, it becomes a mutual request. Requests expire after 14 days.

The group creator can add, delete, or change the roommate group at any time. If changes are made by the creator a notification of the change will be emailed to the roommates.

Students will be able to create roommate groups up to 4 students. 

Students may log into Manage My Housing at any time to check their messages, search for roommates or edit roommate groups. 

Once someone is assigned, they will no longer be a part of the group. Once the group is assigned it can no longer be edited/changed. 

Students will be assigned by the Housing Office on specific date & time based on their application complete date. Assignment dates will be posted during the spring semester.

4 - Assignment Dates and Deadlines

Room Assignment Process

• Students will be assigned rooms by the Housing Office. Assignments will be emailed to the students based on their application complete date, roommate preferences and room type preferences. 
• Once you have been assigned a room, you will have 4 (four) calendar days to confirm your assignment through Manage My Housing, pay your $400 pre-payment, select meal plan and electronically sign your contract to confirm your room.

  • Should your plans to attend UTC change, the pre-payment may be refundable in full if cancellation is received prior to June 1, 2025. If cancellation is received prior to July 1, 2025 student will be refunded 50% of the pre-payment. After July 1, 2025 there are no refunds.
  • Student wishing to cancel their housing need to complete the Housing Cancellation Request through their Manage My Housing account.
  • Failure to agree to the contract AND pay the prepayment within the required 4 days will result in your room assignment and application being cancelled.
• Room changes after you have a booking: if you already have an assignment and are looking for a room change you will need to complete the room change form through Manage My Housing. If/when space becomes available in the building you are requesting we will room change you and you will be notified via your Mocs email account. You will need to confirm your assignment before you are able to complete the room change form.

5 - Updating Application

You may update your preferences (roommate or building) at any time. This will NOT change your application complete date. Do not wait for friends to apply together, go ahead and submit your application as soon as you are admitted to the university.

You must have updates submitted before the assignment date in order for it to take effect.

All updates will be made through Manage My Housing.

6-Confirm Assignment

Once you have received a room assignment, you will have 4 days to confirm your assignment by paying the $400 pre-payment, electronically sign your contract and select a meal plan.

Athletes & Residential Learning Communities

Students in an RLC or on an athletic team will be assigned by the Housing Office once the coach/coordinator adds their name to the housing roster for that team/RLC.

How will I know when I will get assigned?

All communication is through the STUDENT’S UTC email account!

We will email students to their MOCs email account when they are assigned based on application complete date, roommate preferences, and building preferences.

We will continue through the list on each assignment date until all students have been assigned.

How do I check my UTC email account? 

Click My MOCS Net

Log in using your UTC ID & Password (included in your admissions packet)

Once logged in click “Mocs Mail+” in the top right corner

How do I view my assignment/ roommates and change my meal plan?

Log in to Manage My Housing

Click Room Selection/Confirmation

Select the Academic Year Term

Click continue and you will be taken to the meal plan page, you may adjust your meal plan here.

Click continue on the meal plan page to get to completion summary which shows your assignment and roommates.

Why isn't my building preference available? 

The room type you requested did not have space at the time.

Where do I find my roommate group? 

Log in to Manage My Housing

Click Apply for Housing

Click on the Roommate group page in the left navigation window (may look different on a tablet or phone)

From here you can view your group or other group invites.

Why isn't my friend in my roommate group? 

You will see them listed as pending if they have not accepted the request. 

If they declined the request you will no longer see them listed.

What if I don't want the room the group assigned me to? 

If you already have an assignment and are looking for a room change you will need to complete the room change form through Manage My Housing. You will need to confirm your assignment before you are able to complete the room change form.

If/when space becomes available in the building you are requesting we will room change you and you will be notified via your Mocs email account.

What if I missed the deadline to pay the Pre-payment? What happens to my room?

Students who do not pay the $400 prepayment within the 4 days will have their application and assignment cancelled for non-payment.

If your application gets cancelled but you still need housing please log in to Manage My Housing and reapply.

What if I can't pay the Pre-payment or want to use financial aid to pay it? 

Please send an email to [email protected] explaining your situation and ask to defer your prepayment to your fall bill. Include a copy of your financial aid award letter please attach a copy to the email.

I had technical issues paying and the office wasn't open, what should I do?

Send an email to [email protected] letting us know of the issue. We will review all emails on the next business day before processing cancellations.

Our office is open Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm EST, please call us so we can assist with the technical issues.

What if I want to swap rooms with my roommate before actually moving in?

If two students in the same suite/apartment agree to swap rooms they both must send an email to [email protected], from their UTC email account, agreeing to the swap. Include in the email: Your name, UTC ID & your assignment, the other person’s name & their UTC ID, and room in which you wish to switch. An email will be returned when the requests are mutual, and the swap has been completed.

After move-in students will need to talk with their Resident Director about bed swaps and/or room changes.

Can I list a current student or transfer student as a roommate preference?

In order to provide the best service for our large student body, assignments are divided up into 3 categories: Incoming Freshmen, Transfers, and Current students. 

Incoming freshmen may be assigned with other freshmen or incoming transfers.

How do I log in to Manage My Housing?

I accidentally cancelled my application, what do I do?

Please email [email protected] letting us know to reactivate your application.

I have decided to attend another university, what do I need to do? 

Cancelling prior to move in for the Fall semester: please complete the Housing Cancellation Request form by logging into your Manage My Housing. The pre-payment may be refundable in full if cancellation is received prior to May 1. If cancellation is received prior to June 1 student will be refunded 50% of the pre-payment. After June 1 there are no refunds.

How do I know if my application was cancelled?

Details will be sent to your MOCs email account. Please check to verify your cancellation was processed.
