Residential Learning Communities
Learning is not limited to the four walls of the classroom.
Residential Learning Communities (RLCs) provide residents a unique residential learning experience that takes education outside the classroom and allows residents to learn where they live—alongside students with similar academic interests and values.
RLCs create an environment for students to be educated through a unique experience that fosters learning, character development, maturity and individual growth.
Note: If you apply and are accepted to a RLC you will be assigned a room in the designated building.
Arts & Sciences
Location: West Campus Housing (Freshmen Students)
Sponsoring Department: College of Arts & Sciences
The Arts & Sciences Residential Learning Community will provide first-year students with a major in the college a unique opportunity to live and learn together. Common courses will be taken during the fall and spring semester. In addition, the RLC will create an environment in which students can build meaningful relationships, explore new opportunities, develop confidence and purpose, and contribute positively to their communities.

Engineering and Computer Science
Location: UCF Apartments (Upperclassmen Students) and Oak Street Residence Hall (Freshmen Students)

The College of Engineering and Computer Science(CECS) Residential Learning Community(RLC) will provide you with a unique residential experience that takes education outside the classroom and allows you to learn where you live-alongside students interested in engineering, technology and computer science. Live in an environment where you're educated through a unique experience that foster learning, character development, maturity and individual growth.

First Gen MOCs
Location: Guerry Apartments (Freshmen and Upperclassmen Students)
Sponsoring Department: Student Success Programs
The First Gen Mocs LLC is for students who identify as first-generation college students, or students whose parents have not earned a four-year degree. This program helps these students navigate the transition from high school to college and beyond. Participants will live together, take a class together, and engage in activities and events intentionally designed for students who are first-generation. They will receive a mentor, who is also first-generation. First Gen Mocs LLC is dedicated to helping students feel more accepted, like they belong, and like they are connected to their peers, the campus, and the Chattanooga community. We hope to develop our students and engage with them both in and out of the classroom.

Gary W. Rollins College of Business
Location: Walker Apartments (Freshmen, Upperclassmen and Transfers Students)

The Gary W. Rollins College of Business Residential Learning Community is for any student studying business who would like to live with other business majors. This program will help develop skills outside the classroom for success as a young adult.

Go Global
Location: Stophel Apartments (Freshmen and Upperclassmen Students)
Sponsoring Department: Center for Global Education
"Go Global!" allows UTC students to live with and learn from returning UTC international exchange students and new international exchange or ESL students from all over the world. Here, students will be able to practice speaking English, foster appreciation and respect for other cultures, and learn from other UTC students about Chattanooga and "The South". International students live with UTC students minoring or majoring in foreign languages, or international relations.
Complete the Housing Application and indicate your interest in Go Global recruitment process, fill out the interest form after being contract by a Go Global representative and set up an interest meeting. Please note: All members of a roommate group MUST complete the Go Global process to live in a designated Go Global apartment.

Health, Education and Professional Studies

The Health, Education and Professional Studies Residential Learning Community is for any residential student who is a declared major in the College of Health, Education and Professional Studies, or undecided residents who wish to explore these majors.

Honors College
Location: Stophel Apartments (Freshmen, Upperclassmen and Transfer Students)
Sponsoring Department: UTC Honors College
The UTC Honors Residential Learning Communtiy is designed to provide unique academic and experiential leaning experiences to students in the UTC Honors College. In addition to taking seminar-style honors classes replacing general education requirements, all Honors College students take common coursework depending upon their program (Brock Scholars or Innovations in Honors). Through a range of classes, social events, the student-based Honors Council, and other programs, UTC Honors students explore their aptitude and develop as leaders, collaborators and creative problem solvers. First-time first-year college students entering the Brock Scholars Program who will be living on campus are required to live in the Honors Residential Learning Community; upper-class Brock Scholars and any Innovation in Honors students are also welcome to join the Honors Residential Learning Community. Other students interested in living in the Honors Residential Learning Community may also be accommodated provided space allows.

MASH: Mocs Aspiring to Science and Health
Location: West Campus Housing (Freshmen Students)
Sponsoring Department: College of Nursing
The School of Nursing aspires to be the leader in transforming nursing education and promoting health by engaging students in advancing health for all people. For those interested in a nursing major at UTC, this experience will allow the student to have a better understanding of nursing as a profession. The Nursing RLC will engage students in the School of Nursing vision with opportunities for service-based activities within the Chattanooga community. Students will also be introduced to the University academic environment, including the nature and purpose of a college education, expectations for academic success, learning beyond the classroom, academic and career planning, and student engagement resources.

Rollins Scholars

Rollins Scholars, Business Residential College offers first-year business students an exciting opportunity to live, learn, lead and serve as they prepare to become future business and community leaders. Using a network of community members, peer mentors, instructors and residence hall staff, students will make lasting connections and create a strong foundation for success at UTC and in life beyond college. The Business Residential College fosters team work and creates a professional network, building connections in and out of the classroom to prepare “business world ready” students.

Transfer Mocs

Transfer Mocs RLC is specifically designed to support the unique transition of students transferring to UTC from other institutions. Recognizing that you are not "new" to college but are new to our campus, this community focuses on bypassing introductory freshman content in favor of high-level campus integration, professional networking, and a focused path-to-graduation planning. Residents will live alongside peers who understand the challenge of navigating a new campus mid-degree. Through specialized programming and support, Transfer Mocs ensures that transfer students find their "Moc identity" quickly, build a social capital network, and maximize the resources available at UTC from day one.

Room Assignments for Residential Learning Communities
- Submit Housing Application and list RLC preference on housing application
- Submit RLC application (if required by that group)
- Applicants will be reviewed by the RLC Coordinator to determine if you will be invited to the RLC group.
- Once invited by the RLC Coordinator and you accept, you will be assigned to a designated bed in the RLC. Please be aware that of the below items in regard to your RLC assignment:
- RLC require you to live in the building/section where the community is located.
- RLC may require you to be removed from your current roommate group as not all RLC’s will pull in roommates. Please check with your RLC before accepting.
- You will be assigned housing based on the process listed on the “apply for housing website” https://www.utc.edu/enrollment-management-and-student-affairs/housing/incoming-student/room-assignment-guides
Once you have been assigned a room to the RLC’s designated section and will receive an email from [email protected], at that point you have 4 days to confirm your assignment. To confirm, log in to Manage My Housing and select "Room Confirmation" to pay the prepayment, sign your contract and select your meal plan.
