About UTC
If you look around the campus of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, you will find a message chiseled for eternity into the stone of our structures. “We shall achieve.” It’s a bold commitment that guides us in everything we do and tells the world what to expect from our campus and our graduates.
At UTC, we achieve.
That’s why UTC is one of the fastest-growing campuses in Tennessee. Students and their families see the significant benefits of a UTC education. Our campus and our city are experiencing a renaissance with new opportunities for student learning, academic pursuit and community engagement.
Student Success
Our focus on providing an excellent educational experience to students and strengthening community partnerships work together to help the university achieve its goals.
We prepare students for ethical and active leadership in civic, cultural and professional lives. Chattanooga is a living laboratory for our students and faculty, and we secure strategic partnerships to provide access to experiential learning and applied research opportunities.
As a community-engaged university, UTC seeks partnerships that advance the educational, societal and economic development aims of our campus, the University of Tennessee system, the Chattanooga region, the state and the nation.
Bachelor’s, master’s, specialist’s and doctoral degrees, along with graduate certificates, are awarded through the Colleges of Arts and Sciences; Business; Engineering and Computer Science; Health, Education and Professional Studies; and the Graduate School.
In fall 2019, more than $148 million in facility construction, renovation, improvements or planning involving 30 projects is under way. The Honors College provides an innovative learning environment for exceptionally talented students. Off-campus, the University offers credit and noncredit courses for professional and intellectual development, extending its educational impact to a broad range of citizens.
UTC students learn from and alongside a dedicated group of teaching scholars. Every day, our faculty introduce new ideas to students and produce knowledge through research and creative achievements.
Research is a UTC priority. Effective teaching and faculty involvement in scholarship, research and creative activities are interdependent. These foster the intellectual growth of the faculty, provide students with opportunities to participate in development and application of new knowledge, and enhance the region’s growth.

Chattanooga
Home to some of the world’s most famous brands and industries—Moon Pie, Little Debbie, Amazon, Coca-Cola, Chattem, Volkswagen—Chattanooga is a hub for successful business enterprise, a regional tourism center and a rewarding place to live. Nestled next to downtown Chattanooga, UTC has easy access to the thriving business environment necessary to support real-world learning experiences. When class is over, students don’t have far to go to climb, glide, hike, camp, tube, float, explore, shop, eat, kick back and have a blast!
UTC education goes beyond the classroom and laboratory, typical of an institution with service as a high priority, and UTC faculty bring their expertise to bear on the concerns of the larger community.
We work to keep tuition affordable that a UTC education remains accessible. UTC remains below the average cost of attendance of its peer institutions.
Through regional, out-of-state tuition discounts, UTC offers an $8,000 annual tuition reduction to eligible residents of all eight Tennessee border states, plus South Carolina.
