1. Log in at https://www.va.gov/education/how-to-apply/ or create a new account

2. Select “Apply for Benefits"

3. Select Appropriate Form

VA Form 22-1990 (Chapters 30,32,33,1606, and 1607)

VA Form 22-1990E (Chapter 33 Family Members T.O.E)

VA Form 22-5490 (Chapter 35 DEA)

4.  Select "Applying for a New Benefit"

5. Complete and submit online application
 

 

Submit Change of Program/Place of Training

1. Log in at https://www.va.gov/education/how-to-apply/

2. Select "Education Benefits"

3. Select "Application Process"

4. Select Appropriate Form

VA Form 22-1990 (Chapters 30,32,33,1606, and 1607)

VA Form 22-1990E (Chapter 33 Family Members T.O.E)

VA Form 22-5490 (Chapter 35 DEA)

5. Select "Updating Current Benefits"

6. Select "Apply Now"

7. Complete and submit online application 
 

 

Viewing Your Benefit Entitlement

Post 9/11 GI Bill®: Chapter 33

1. Log in at ebenefits.va.gov or create an account
2. Select “Manage Your Benefits”
3. Select “Documents and Records”
4. Select “Military Personnel File”
5. Consent and log in with your DoD or VONAPP account
 

 

Montgomery GI Bill®: Chapters 30, 1606, 1607

1. Log in at gibill.va.gov/wave or create an account
2. Select “Benefit Status Information”
 

 

Chapter 31 and Chapter 35

Chapter 31 Vocational Rehabilitation and Chapter 35 DEA cannot obtain benefit entitlement information online. 

To obtain entitlement information, call the Department of Veterans Affairs at 1-800-827-1000.
