To apply, click the link above and it will take you the UTC Application Portal. You will use the same email address and password as you used to complete your admissions application to UTC. Once logged in, select the blue button that says "Other Applications" and you will see the option to select “CECS Scholarship” from that drop down.
Application Timeline (for Scholarships available through the College of Engineering and Computer Science):
- October 1, 2023 - The scholarship application process begins.
- Deadline for CECS Scholarships: January 29. Complete the online application, including uploading unofficial transcripts
- Late March - Scholarship Committee meets to determine scholarship awards
- To Be Determined - Students will be notified by email of their award
How do I request my transcript?
Through the MyMocsNet portal, go to the Academic Profile section. Click on My Profile. This will take you to your student profile. On the left banner, you will see Academic Transcript listed. Click there to access your unofficial transcript page. Select your transcript level and type to pull up the document. Right click to select print and then select Save as PDF. Submit this document in the scholarship application.
Who should apply?
The application is the same for students of all levels: incoming freshmen, continuing CECS students, incoming transfer students and graduate students.
Incoming Transfer Students:
Extended deadline for Dean's Merit and Dean's Need-based scholarships! Apply by June 1st.
The application is the same as the general application (outlined above). You just need to apply once - if you apply before January 29 you will be considered for all scholarships. If you apply after January 29 but before June 1, you will be considered for Dean's Merit and Dean's Need-based scholarships.

Additional Scholarships awarded through Financial Aid - UTC Scholarship Office
This scholarship is offered through the generosity of Mario and Grace Charles. An eligible candidate must
- Be a Full-Time UTC student during the award period (minimum of 12 credit hours each semester);
- Major in either Engineering or Education (Education majors must be admitted to the Teacher Education Program or graduate students admitted to an education program that includes certification);
- Have a minimum 3.5 GPA and completed at least 30 hours at UTC (AP credit from high school is included).
This scholarship requires a separate application. The application is typically available online each year in January or February. Please use the link above for more information about how to apply and to find other scholarship opportunities.
PLEASE NOTE: Scholarship funds are limited and the awarding process is competitive. Meeting the eligibility requirements does not guarantee a student will receive a scholarship.
Dean’s Merit Scholarship – Graduate and Undergraduate
There are a variety of Dean’s Merit Scholarships, awarded to undergraduate and graduate students. Some awards are based on academic performance and others are based on financial need.
AGC Education and Research Foundation
Qualifications:
Each year the AGC Education and Research Foundation offers undergraduate and graduate level scholarships to students enrolled in ABET or ACCE accredited construction management or construction related engineering programs.
Over $10 million in scholarships have been awarded to more than 4,000 students attending colleges and universities across the country. Through endowments made by AGC members and supporters, as well as AGC Chapters, the Education and Research Foundation awards over 100 scholarships each year to students dedicated to pursuing a career in the construction industry.

Alstom Power Inc. Engineering GEAR UP Scholarship
Qualifications:
Each applicant for this scholarship must be an undergraduate or graduate engineering student and demonstrate successful academic performance. The donors prefer that first consideration be given to students who have successfully completed the GEAR UP program. Financial need may be considered as well (this information will be determined by information the college scholarship coordination receives from UTC's scholarship office from information you provide on your FAFSA).
John F. Germ Scholarship
Qualifications:
The recipient of this scholarship demonstrates leadership potential and should be in good academic standing. Financial need may be considered as well (this information will be determined by information the college scholarship coordination receives from UTC's scholarship office from information you provide on your FAFSA).
William Q. Gurley Scholarship
Qualifications:
This scholarship is available to junior, and senior students who are engineering majors and they:
must have a 3.0 GPA in first 2 years of academic work
must demonstrate financial need (this information will be determined by information the college scholarship coordination receives from UTC's scholarship office from information you provide on your FAFSA)
must be enrolled in the Mechanical Engineering Program
James Kent Memorial Scholarship
Qualifications:
This scholarship is awarded to one male and one female student with a satisfactory academic history and demonstrated financial need (this information will be determined by information the college scholarship coordination receives from UTC's scholarship office from information you provide on your FAFSA). The student must be enrolled in the College of Engineering.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul J. Kinser Scholarship
Qualifications:
It is the preference of the donors that this scholarship be awarded to students who:
- Are juniors or seniors majoring in engineering
- Have a 3.0 GPA or above
- Have demonstrated leadership in non-academic campus activities
- Have demonstrated financial need as determined by the FAFSA
Norbert Koch Scholarship
Qualifications:
Founded in 1979 in honor of Dr. Norbert Koch, who retired after 32 years as an outstanding engineering professor within the UTC community, this scholarship is awarded to students majoring in one of the following engineering fields:
- Electricity/Power, Mechanical, Chemical, Environmental, Industrial, Electrical/Instrumental and Control, Thermal, or Civil/Structural
- The student should have an exceptional academic record and financial need as determined by the FAFSA
Mary Alice McBrayer Scholarship
Qualifications:
Established in 1993, this scholarship is awarded to students pursuing one of the following engineering fields:
- Chemical, Manufacturing Management, Thermal, Civil/Structural, Elect/Power, MFG/Systems, Environmental, Industrial, or Electrical/Instrumental and Control
- The student should be a sophomore or above who has a satisfactory academic record and has performed service to the community in some way.
Stan McCay Scholarship
Qualifications:
Established in 2006 in memory of Mr. Stan McKay, who was employed for 32 years by the Combustion Engineering Metallurgical Research Lab, where he specialized in quality control support of the company. This scholarship will be awarded to undergraduate and graduate students who have a satisfactory academic record and financial need as determined by the FAFSA. Preference will be given to chemical engineering majors.
McKee Foods Scholarship
Qualifications:
This scholarship will be awarded to Computer Science majors who have maintained a 3.0 GPA or above in all major-related coursework. Preference will be given to underrepresented groups and to juniors. If no juniors are eligible, sophomores will be considered.
LaVerne Thompson Memorial Scholarship
Qualifications:
Established in 1987, this scholarship is awarded each year by the faculty of the Computer Science department to students entering into the Computer Science major.
A.L. Vest Engineering Scholarship
Qualifications:
This scholarship will be awarded to Computer Science majors who have maintained a 3.0 GPA or above in all major-related coursework. Preference will be given to juniors. If no juniors are eligible, sophomores will be considered.
American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Tennessee
To qualify for the ACEC Tennessee Scholarship , a student must be a US citizen pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in an engineering or land surveying program in Tennessee in a department that has at least one ABET-accredited program. Candidates for the CASE scholarship (a national scholarship) must be enrolled in a Master's degree program in Structural Engineering. Tennessee Engineering Foundation Scholarships

The TEF scholarships are open to any rising junior or senior in an accredited engineering school in Tennessee. The Dorothy & Arthur Crouch Memorial scholarship is open to any rising junior or senior in an accredited engineering school in the state of Tennessee as well as the child or grandchild of any TSPE member at the accredited school of choice (in or out of Tennessee) if all other requirements are met.
James K. Goldston INFOSEC Scholarship
Purpose and History: Established in 2006 by the family of James K. Goldston to provide assistance to students from Tennessee to pursue undergraduate programs of study with a National Security Agency (NSA)-approved Information Security (INFOSEC) curriculum.
Eligibility Requirements
- Residency Requirement: Anderson, Blount, Campbell, Carter, Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Greene, Hamblen, Hancock, Hawkins, Jefferson, Johnson, Knox (TN), Loudon, McMinn, Monroe, Morgan, Roane, Scott, Sevier, Sullivan, Unicoi, Union, or Washington County
- Education Requirement: Graduating high school seniors, currently enrolled college/university students, non-traditional aged students
- Field of Study: computer engineering, computer science, cyber science, information security OR an NSA-approved INFOSEC curriculum. Interest in cyber security and information security preferred.
- GPA Minimum: 2.5
- College/Enrollment Requirement: Full-time undergraduate
- Must demonstrate financial need
- Additional Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship
- Special consideration given to non-traditional students and applicants panning to attend or currently attending Tennessee schools
- Preference given to applicants who are the first in their family to attend college.
Marshall A. Hildebrand Scholarship
Purpose
Applications are now being accepted for the Marshall A. Hildebrand Scholarship. The scholarship is named in memory of a Charter Member of the Chattanooga Chapter and Fellow of the Construction Specifications Institute. This scholarship is awarded to encourage and assist qualified students who wish to pursue post-secondary education in the field of architecture, engineering, interior design, construction management, or other construction related fields so they in turn might further the goals and exemplify the ideals of the Construction Specifications Institute.
Eligibility
- Applicant must be a college rising sophomore, junior, or senior with at least 2 semesters remaining prior to graduation, or pursuing a postgraduate degree in a design or construction related field.
- Be in academic good standing with the university.
- Be attending an accredited college, university, or other post-secondary institution.
- Be CSI Student Member of the Institute and a Home Chapter.
Selection Criteria
- Written recommendation of school advisor and/or instructor.
- Grade point average.
- Enrollment in a construction related major such as architecture, engineering, interior design, construction management, etc.
- Evidence of serious scholastic attitude, good character, leadership qualities, well-rounded development, and solid reasons for choosing the area of study.
- Must be an active student CSI chapter member. (An active member is defined as being a current member of CSI in good standing at the time of the application and attending monthly meetings.)
Other Information
- Should the recipient withdraw from school or change majors to a non-construction related field during the academic year, the recipient is required to notify the CSI Chattanooga Chapter Board of Directors (at the address below) of this change within 45 calendar days.

Chatech Scholars
ChaTech is proud to have a robust scholarship program to support our strategic goal to invest in the region’s technology talent. This scholarship program is open to students enrolled in an information technology major, and awards may range from $1,000 to $2,500.
American Society for Engineering Management
The American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM) awards an undergraduate scholarship and a graduate scholarship each academic year.
Frank Jones Memorial Scholarship
Scholarship awarded to chemical engineering students.
Qualifications:
- Major in Chemical Engineering
- GPA 3.0 or better
- Sophomore or above

The Julian B. Bell Family Scholarship
Qualifications:
It is the preference of the donor that the scholarship be awarded to:
- Sophomores, juniors, and seniors within the College of Engineering and Computer Science pursuing an undergraduate degree in engineering or engineering management
- Students who demonstrate academic success, financial need, and a record of leadership within the College of Engineering and Computer Science, the UTC campus, or the broader community
- Let it be noted that preference in allocation of the Julian B. Bell Family Scholarship will be given to students to whom it has been awarded in prior years.
Chattanooga Engineers Club Annual Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to students seeking degrees in engineering or computer science who have a successful academic record. Preference will be given to prior recipients and to those with financial need.
CodeOne Annual Scholarship
Awarded to computer science degree seeking students. Financial need may be taken into consideration.
Curtis Scholarship
Awarded to students seeking engineering degrees who have demonstrated academic excellence.
Dr. J. Eric Schonblom Scholarship
Established in 1977 in honor of its namesake’s retirement from CECS, this scholarship is awarded to students majoring in engineering who have demonstrated successful academic performance.
Engineer’s Week Scholarships
Subcategories include:
- American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), for students active in UTC’s ASME chapter.
- BASF Corporation, for academically successful chemical engineering students
- Society of Women in Engineering (SWE), for students active in UTC’s ASME chapter.
- Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE), for academically successful engineering students
Jack C. Marcellis Civil Engineering Scholarship
Established in 2003, this scholarship is awarded to upperclassmen civil engineering students who demonstrate academic excellence.
James Roger Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is reserved for upperclassmen in the College of Engineering and Computer Science who have served the UTC community with excellence.
Jenks Fain Parker Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1984, this scholarship is awarded to engineering students who have demonstrated outstanding moral character, academic success, and financial need.
The James Moreland Minority Engineering Scholarship
For students who meet the following criteria:
- 60+ completed hours of college credit
- Pursuing a degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
Lukens Award in Engineering
Awarded annually to the rising junior in the College of Engineering and Computer Science with the highest grade point average.
Michael H. Jones Scholarship in Engineering
This scholarship, named for Dr. Michael H. Jones, who served the UTC community well for over forty years, is awarded to mechanical engineering students who demonstrate outstanding academic performance. Financial need may be considered.
Mr. Thomas J. Kline Scholarship
A scholarship awarded to upperclassmen with a successful academic record; preference will be given to engineering management students.
Ralph T. and Alice P. Call Scholarship
Established in 1999 by the son of its namesakes, this scholarship is awarded to in-state engineering students with a successful academic record. Preference will be given to prior recipients and to applicants with demonstrated financial need.
Ryan Brackett Award
This scholarship is funded by Tau Beta Pi in memory of Ryan Brackett, and is annually awarded to a senior engineering student.
Shitalkumer Rali Scholarship
Established in 2018, this scholarship is awarded to a student in engineering or computer science students with an outstanding record of academic success and community service.
