About CECS

About the College of Engineering and Computer Science
For over 40 years, the College of Engineering and Computer Science has been preparing the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers—serving Tennessee, the nation, and the world.
Our students don’t just learn in the classroom—they roll up their sleeves in laboratories, contribute to community projects, and tackle real-world challenges. Guided by dedicated faculty mentors, both undergraduate and graduate students have opportunities to engage in cutting-edge research in fields such as urban science and smart cities, energy and networked systems, data analytics, infrastructure engineering, cybersecurity, quality control, robotics, fluid dynamics, and automotive systems.
Our graduates are in high demand
There are many reasons why companies want to hire our students. When CECS students graduate, they receive more than just a diploma. They spend their years at UTC earning an applicable, hands-on education. They participate in innovative research and boost their knowledge with internship experiences. Small class sizes provide robust mentorships with faculty, so students reach their full potential. Strong partnerships with local and global organizations help our students succeed.
College Departments
The College is home to diverse departments that reflect the breadth of engineering and computing today, including Civil and Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Management and Technology, and Computer Science and Engineering. Each department offers specialized degree programs, hands-on learning experiences, and pathways to careers in high-demand fields.
