We help individuals explore career options, connect with the larger community, engage through experiential learning opportunities, and transition into careers that are successful and satisfying. We also work closely with Academic Advising and faculty to ensure career development is an integrated part of the college experience.

- Co-op Program

Cooperative Education is a structured method of combining classroom-based education with practical work experience. A cooperative education experience, commonly known as a “co-op,” provides academic credit for structured job experience. Cooperative Education is taking on new importance in helping young people to make the school-to-work transition, service learning, and experiential learning initiatives.
- CECS Undergraduate Students Seeking a Career Development Appointment
- Undergraduate students majoring within an academic disciplines at the College of Engineering and Computer Science have free access to a career coach through the Center for Student Success. Whether they hope to discuss their career exploration efforts, resume, cover letter, interviewing skills, internship opportunities, job search techniques, networking opportunities, or ways to get involved in career development programs, CECS undergraduates are strongly encouraged to make a career development appointment by emailing the CSS. Students should indicate what they would like to cover during the appointment, the times they have available to meet, and whether they would like to meet virtually or in person. The College of Engineering and Computer Science holds a Career Fair twice a year, the first Wednesday of March and November, within the Engineering, Math and Computer Science Building (EMCS). Having the event schedule the same time every year allow you to pre-plan and be present at all the events.
During this event, students have access to prospective employers within the halls of the building in which they attend classes.
- Industry Tours

Everyone loves a field trip! The CECS Coordinator arranges for several visits to local and regional employer sites throughout the academic year. Interested employers should email us if they would like to coordinate a visit from CECS students to their companies. Every semester, the CECS invites dozens of employers onto campus to review the resumes of CECS students. While students can schedule a career coaching appointment at any time to get their document reviewed, this event is special because it brings hiring managers and eager young talent together. The networking is powerful, and the resume advice is very practical. Interested employers should email us if they would like to serve for an upcoming resume Review Day. - Moc Interview Day

Every semester, the CECS invites dozens of employers onto campus to help massage the interview skills of CECS students. The goal of this event is to help students remove the anxiety associated with interviews and gain useful experience by meeting face-to-face with real employers outside the job search process while the focus is on practice and the stakes are low. During the interview, the employers will provide students with feedback on their resume, interview responses, and overall impression. We encourage employers to use their own interview format to make mock interviews as close to a real interview as possible. While students can schedule a career coaching appointment at any time to practice their interview skills, this event is special because it brings hiring managers and eager young talent together. The networking is powerful, and the interviewing advice is very practical. Interested employers should email us if they would like to serve for an upcoming resume “Moc” Interview Day. Every semester, we provide an opportunity for students to receive feedback from local employers on ways to improve their LinkedIn profile to become more effective and discoverable by recruiters on this very popular professional networking site. LinkedIn is the premier networking platform, providing job seekers and potential employers with the ability to connect. With more than 500 million users, it has huge potential to impact individuals in their early careers especially. Through CECS LinkedIn Reviews, hiring managers and recruiters will provide their insights, offering students an opportunity to network with these VIPs while ensuring their LinkedIn profiles are in top shape. Students will be invited to participate each semester and will register through Handshake.
- Speaker Series

In support of the UTC CECS teaching, research, and service missions, the College offers the Speaker Series. As a further outreach commitment to students, faculty, and the extended community, the Speaker Series is open to the public. The presentations in the Speaker Series provide opportunities for sharing both cutting-edge information from noted researcher in various fields as well as experience and timely insights from community leaders. Industry leaders seeking to serve as a speaker are encouraged to email the CECS Dean’s Office.

Freshman
In year one, students should explore and determine careers that fit their strengths and goals best, and receive advice on how to network strategically in chosen fields to discover opportunities. UTC uses a variety of assessments to assist in your exploration. Want a sneak peek? Take a quick personality test here or dig in deeper to explore your major and career fit using Focus 2 assessments (access code is mocs).
Sophomore
As a sophomore, students should conduct company research, formulating a career plan, building confidence through professional development, and arranging informational interviews with targeted employers toward internships or co-op programs.
Junior
As a junior, the partnership deepens as we help students develop professional resumes, tailored cover letters, and interview skills until they feel sufficiently prepared to impress. By the midpoint of junior year, we hope students will seek internships or co-ops, as successful experiences in the field have a strong possibility of converting to employment upon graduation!
Senior
If students have followed this career success plan throughout their college career at CECS, as seniors, a student’s main responsibility will be exploring opportunities, acing interviews and negotiating into an ideal position.
