ADA Accommodation
ADA Accommodation and Accessibility Information
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is committed to its role in the provision of equal opportunity and access in employment and education for persons with disabilities. UTC adheres to the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. The ADA requires employers with 15 or more employees to provide qualified individuals with disabilities an equal opportunity to benefit from the full range of employment-related opportunities available to employees.
The accommodation process is designed to explore reasonable accommodations for employees with disabilities in a deliberative and interactive way. Accommodations are determined on a case-by-case basis as part of a cooperative effort between the employee and appropriate University personnel. This process is designed to be consistent and transparent with the focus on finding a reasonable and agreed upon accommodation.
Initiate the Process
The university provides reasonable accommodations to qualified faculty and staff who are disabled or become disabled and need assistance performing the essential functions of their positions through our ADA Coordinator, who is located in the Office of Equal Opportunity and Accessibility at 720 McCallie Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37403.
To initiate the process for requesting ADA Accommodations, please submit the Employee Disclosure Form available here:
Medical Documentation
As a necessary part of determining whether the employee has a disability covered under the ADA, the accommodation process will require appropriate medical documentation and possible consultation with the employee's physicians and health care providers. Any information gathered will be handled confidentially and will only be shared as needed with appropriate personnel to consider the implementation of reasonable accommodation. To expedite the process, employees are asked to submit supporting documentation from their medical provider with the Employee Disclosure Form.
All requests for accommodation will be reviewed on an individual basis. The ADA Coordinator will work with the employee, their supervisor(s), and appropriate UTC personnel and units to consider the nature of the request, the supporting medical documentation, the essential functions of the position, and the needs of the department. Any changes in an employee's medical condition or job functions may require the review and consideration of additional or updated medical documentation.
