Community engagement is an integral part of who we are and what we do!

The Division of Access and Engagement is committed to providing opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to engage with the Chattanooga community in meaningful ways.  Through understanding and utilizing the resources, support, networks, and attractions Chattanooga has to offer, our goal is to not only retain talent in the city and bolster Chattanooga’s success and reputation but also ensure that the Chattanooga community views UTC as an invaluable asset within the community.

In 2008, UTC earned the Community Engagement Classification designation by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, and again in 2015, for institutionalizing community engagement. This national designation exemplifies the extraordinary partnerships UTC faculty, staff and students continue to foster within our community and beyond.

Community engagement describes the collaborations between UTC and our local, regional, state, national, and global communities for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity. The purpose of community engagement is to enrich scholarship, research, and creative activity; enhance curriculum, teaching, and learning; prepare educated, engaged citizens; strengthen democratic values and civic responsibility; address critical societal issues; and contribute to the public good.
