Upward Bound Eligibility
To be considered for Upward Bound, a student must meet the following criteria:
-
Enrolled in the ninth (9th), tenth (10th), eleventh (11th) or twelfth (12th) grade at either Brainerd High, East Ridge High, Red Bank High or Howard School of Academics and Technology.
-
A potential first-generation college student--neither parent has completed a four-year, post-secondary college degree.
-
A member of a family whose income does not exceed the level established annually by the U.S. Department of Education.
-
Have a completed application, including one high school counselor recommendation and one teacher recommendation.
A prospective student may obtain an application from the guidance office at one of the schools listed above or from the UB office. Students are not accepted until they have turned in a completed application, a copy of their parents’ most recent income tax form or other proof of income documentation, a copy of their most recent report card/transcript, and any other documentation requested by Upward Bound staff. All applications will be reviewed by UB staff for accuracy and a formal invite will be extended if the criteria have been met.
