Scholarships
All SOE Scholarships require admission to TEP (Checkpoint 2). Please read each description carefully before completing an application. All applications are active by February 1, 2026 and will remain active until March 15, 2026. Scholarships will be awarded May through August, and recipients will receive scholarship funds for the following Fall semester only.
Students selected for scholarships/awards should be advised that:
- All scholarships (state, institutional/departmental and private outside) are considered in the student’s financial aid package.
- Other Financial Aid, including loans, may be adjusted as a result of receiving this award.
- The award will first be applied to reduce any existing balance owed to UTC, including outstanding/prior fees or parking citations.
- Clayton Arnold Scholarship
This scholarship should be awarded to students that have been accepted into the Teacher Education Program.
Consideration for the recipients should include:
- Must be an undergraduate student
- Must be from a Southern state
- Must demonstrate financial need, desire, aptitude for teaching, and academic proficiency
- Bernie W. Benson Scholarship
This scholarship should be awarded to any student accepted for admission or currently enrolled at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Consideration for the recipients should include:
- Must be an undergraduate student
- Must demonstrate successful academic performance and/or financial need.
- Majoring in Science Education (preferred)
- Seryl M. Berger Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship should be awarded on a one time basis. This scholarship is based solely on merit and ability not on financial needs.
Consideration for the recipients should include:
- Must be an undergraduate or graduate student
- Must be majoring in Special Education
- Must show an exceptional aptitude for teaching children with special needs
- The student receiving the award must agree to morally obligate themself to contribute to the Seryl M. Berger Scholarship Fund within five (5) years of their graduation. This moral obligation, although to be legally non-binding, is to be in writing. The student recipient is to be advised that the purpose of their moral obligation is to enable the Seryl M. Berger Scholarship Fund to make similar gifts to worthy students in the future.
- Dr. Thomas E. Bibler Scholarship
This scholarship is open to any student accepted for admission or currently enrolled at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Consideration for the recipients should include:
- Must be an undergraduate or graduate student
- Must demonstrate successful academic performance and/or financial need
- Majoring in Education with a concentration in social science education or history education (preferred)
- Roland D. and Gillie Queener Carter Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship should be awarded to dedicated students who will teach in special education and who plan to pursue graduate work in the field.
Consideration for the recipients should include:
- Must be an undergraduate student
- Must be majoring in Special Education
- David and Mary Copeland Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship should be awarded to current UTC students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in education.
Consideration for the recipients should include:
- Must be an undergraduate or graduate student
- Must be in good academic standing and demonstrate successful academic performance
- H. Wade Cowan Literacy Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship should be awarded to students currently enrolled at or admitted to attend the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Consideration for the recipients should include:
- Must be an undergraduate student
- Must be pursuing a degree in Pre K-3 Elementary Education with an emphasis in literacy
- Must be in good academic standing and demonstrate successful academic performance
- Must be pursuing a degree or major within the UTC College of Health, Education and Professional Studies
- Non-traditional, 25 years or older student (preferred)
- James Wendell "Skipper" Fairbanks Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship should be awarded to applicants enrolled or admitted to UTC.
Consideration for the recipients should include:
- Must be an undergraduate or graduate student
- Must be registered in Residency II (student teaching) or pursuing a Master's degree in Education
- Must demonstrate successful academic performance
- Lottie Elizabeth Hemmings Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship should be awarded to undergraduate students majoring in Secondary Education: English.
Consideration for the recipients should include:
- Must be an undergraduate student
- Must demonstrate successful academic performance and financial need
- Must be pursuing undergraduate degree in Secondary Education with a concentration in English
- Awarded to previous award winners and single parents (preferred)
- Dr. Charles M. Hyder Endowed Scholarship in Educational Leadership
This scholarship is for applicants enrolled or admitted into the UTC Educational Leadership Program.
Consideration for the recipient should include:
- Must be a graduate student
- Must be enrolled or admitted to attend the Educational Leadership Program at UTC
- Ann Kazanowski Berg Endowed Scholarship in Education
This scholarship should be awarded to students in the School of Education.
Consideration for the recipients should include:
- Must be an undergraduate student
- Must demonstrate successful academic performance
- Awarded to School of Education applicants in their junior or senior year (preferred)
- Tom and Teresa Losh Annual Scholarship
This scholarship should be awarded to students enrolled or admitted to attend UTC in a School of Education program.
Consideration for the recipient should include:
- Must be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Education
- Must be in good standing and demonstrate successful academic performance
- Participants in a UTC Intercollegiate Athletics Program (preferred)
- Miller/Schwartz Scholarship
This scholarship should be awarded to students who are enrolled or have been admitted to UTC.
Consideration for the recipient should include:
- Must be an undergraduate or graduate student
- Must demonstrate successful academic performance and/or financial need
- Awarded to applicant in the School of Education's special education program (preferred)
- Ralph F. Quarles Scholarship
This scholarship is open to any student who has been accepted for admission or is currently enrolled at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Consideration for the recipients should include:
- Must be an undergraduate or graduate student
- Must be a resident of Georgia
- Must be pursuing a degree in the School of Education full time
- Dr. Charles "Rocky" Renneisen Endowed Scholarship in Education
This scholarship is open to any student admitted to or currently enrolled at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Consideration for the recipient should include:
- Must be a graduate student
- Must be pursuing a graduate degree in Education
- Must hold current good standing and demonstrate successful academic performance
- Carol Smith Sanders Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship should be awarded to graduate students in the special education Master's program.
Consideration for the recipients should include:
- Must be a graduate student
- Must be pursuing a Master's degree in Special Education
- Must demonstrate successful academic performance and/or financial need.
- John Ebb and Mary Ann Stewart Scholarship in Education
This scholarship should be awarded to undergraduate students in year three or four.
Consideration for the recipients should include:
- Must be an undergraduate student
- Must be a junior or senior pursuing a degree in PreK-3
- Must be in good academic standing and demonstrate successful academic performance
- Intention to teach in Tennessee (preferred)
- Dr. Roy Stinnett Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is open to any student accepted for admission or enrolled at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Consideration for the recipients should include:
- Must be an undergraduate or graduate student
- Must demonstrate successful academic performance and/or financial need
- Student majoring in Education (preferred)
- Alpha Delta Kappa - Chi Chapter Scholarship
A scholarship for Juniors and Seniors, offered by the Tennessee Chi Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa.
Consideration for the recipients should include:
- Must be an undergraduate or graduate student
Other Scholarship/Aid Opportunities outside the School of Education:
Chattanooga Hamilton County Retired Teachers Association (CHCRTA)
A variety of scholarship opportunities are available for incoming, current, and former UTC students through CHCRTA. These scholarships are awarded by an external organization, so please be aware that due dates and application criteria may differ from those offered through UTC.
Our 2026 scholarships will go live in January.
TN Future Teacher Scholarship
The Tennessee Future Teacher Scholarship is a loan-scholarship program intended to encourage exemplary students to enter the teaching field in Tennessee. Participation is limited to college juniors, seniors, and post-baccalaureate students admitted to an approved educator preparation program (EPP) in a Tennessee college or university.
