SI Leader Description and Hiring
SI Leaders assist students by creating activities to review course material from new perspectives. As an SI Leader, you will have the freedom to be creative, determining what is most important to review with students in your SI Sessions. Students are encouraged to apply for an SI Leader position if they are strong in an SI-supported subject, enjoy diving into the details, and have a passion for helping others. There is no other opportunity on campus like this one! Please review the information below.
SI Leader Hiring:
SI Leaders support targeted courses in the Fall and Spring semesters. The hiring process begins mid-semester for the next semester. Apply early to give yourself the best chance of being selected for this competitive opportunity!
- Fall Hiring â SI Leader application opens mid-March
- Spring Hiring â SI Leader application opens the beginning of October
All qualified individuals will receive hiring announcements via email. Qualified applicants will be invited to an interview with the SI Program Coordinator.
SI Leader Qualifications:

Sophomore, Junior or Senior Student (Freshmen considered with a letter of recommendation from a professor.

Cumulative GPA of 3.0

Completed the course of interest at UTC and earned an A
- Available to attend the course lectures (discussed in the interview process)
Overview of SI Leader Responsibilities:
-
Engage in pre-semester SI Leader training
-
Attend all scheduled course lectures and SI Sessions
-
Participate in weekly SI Leader staff meetings where active-learning strategies are demonstrated and practiced

Attend assigned SI Lab to create lesson plans and materials being used in SI Sessions

Meet with assigned professor occasionally to discuss course progress and student performance

Maintain professional communication with the SI Program Coordinator, the Supplemental Instruction Program Assistants (SIAs), and the course instructor.

Act as a peer support for students and refer them to campus support services as needed including immediately reporting critical issues to the Coordinator.
