Find new ways to achieve in the classroom.
1252 UNIVERSITY STUDIES: Mindset for Academic Success is a one-credit-hour course for students with a cumulative GPA lower than 2.75.
The purpose of the course is to teach strategies for academic success and to develop a new MINDSET (Motivation, Initiative, Navigation, Direction, Study Skills, Expectations, and Time Management).
USTU 1252 is built specifically for students wanting to improve their GPA. Students are paired with a trained Peer Academic Coach, a fellow UTC student, for one-on-one sessions every other week that are supported by short online modules. Together, students and coaches work on the things that make the biggest difference in achieving academic success:
- Building a time management system
- Study strategies that go beyond re-reading notes the night before a test
- Memory techniques that help information stick
- Finding and using the campus resources
- Staying motivated and keeping direction when things get hard

What do former USTU1252 MINDSET students have to say?
- "I never imagined just how much you would be helping me through the semester."
-
"I learned so many little tips from you this semester about getting my schoolwork done. The study tips will be something I use for the rest of my schooling and improved my grades tremendously. Especially when I combined those with what I learned about which learning style works for me. The multitasking worksheet helped me realize how I need to do things to be the most efficient. The motivation worksheet made me realize that I want to change my major. All these things put me on the path of success."
-
"What truly helped me was having someone who was there for me. Being able to talk to someone that wasn’t involved in any situations made everything so much better for me. I was able to put things into perspective and get your opinion on many different things. I had more things on my plate this semester than I have ever had before. Getting help from you to balance everything worked wonders for me. Thank you for everything you did for me this semester."
