Advising Resources

During their first year at UTC, students advised by the Center for Academic Support and Advisement will meet with their advisors a minimum of twice a semester.
Students are contacted through their Mocs email address with instructions for selecting an appointment time.
The purposes of these meetings are:
Fall Semester
First Meeting
Meet with advisor to discuss the purpose of academic advising, transitioning to college, adjusting to classes and campus resources to support academic success, such as tutoring and supplemental instruction.
The student’s second meeting with the academic advisor also is scheduled at this time.
Second Meeting
Discuss selection of major, course registration and progress toward graduation.
Upon the student and advisor jointly deciding on the student’s course schedule, the advisor will remove the advising hold so the student can register for spring semester classes.
Spring Semester
Third Meeting
Discuss the previous semester’s academic performance, adjustment to current classes and campus resources available to support academic success, such as tutoring and supplemental instruction.
The student’s fourth meeting with the academic advisor is scheduled at this time.
Fourth Meeting
As with the second meeting, the student speaks with the advisor about selection of major, course registration and progress toward graduation. Upon the student and advisor jointly deciding on the student’s course schedule, the advisor will remove the advising hold so the student can register for fall semester classes.
Beginning in their second year, students are advised by their major departments. Spring semester advisement meetings prepare students for this transition and provide contact information.
