Degree Planning
History majors are required to complete 39 hours of history courses. For more information, please see the Major Requirements Section.
The BA degree requires the completion of the language requirement, or equivalent through placement. Students may satisfy the language requirement by:
- completing the second college year in one foreign language (for a total of four semesters of a single language),
- completing one college year of a foreign language, or the equivalent through placement, plus MLNG 2000 (Experiencing Global Cultures) and any 3 credit hours earned solely through study abroad (of at least 25 consecutive days). The faculty of the Modern and Classical Languages department encourages students to begin or to continue foreign language study during as soon as possible in their degree program.
UTC students must complete 40-41 hours of general education. For more information, please see the General Education section and website.

Additional Degree Requirements:
- Complete a minor or a second major in another discipline
- Complete electives to reach 120 hours of coursework
- Complete 39 hours of upper-level coursework
- Make sure that 60 of your credit hours come from a four-year college or university, and that the last 24 hours of coursework are completed at UTC
