About our Lecture Series
The purpose of Africana Studies’ John Henrik Clarke and Medgar Wiley Evers Lecture Series is to bring scholars and activists to the UTC campus to share their passion, knowledge, activism and expertise with our students, staff, faculty, administrators and community members both inside and outside of the state of Tennessee. Invited guests present public lectures, free and open to the public, and engage in dialogue with audience members during Q&A sessions. They also meet with a representation of students from across the campus to discuss issues and answer student-directed questions in a more informal setting. The overall goal of the lecture series is to connect our community members with some of the most noted activists, scholars and Civil and Human rights activists from across the country. By doing so, Africana Studies continues its time-honored tradition of activist-based teaching, learning and supporting communal actions in defense of truth, justice and the preservation of one’s humanity.
