The graduate faculty has 14 members and their research interests span a wide variety of mathematical interests. These include linear algebra and matrix theory, modern algebra, number theory, graph theory, numerical analysis, functional analysis, ordinary and partial differential equations and difference equations, operations research, statistics and mathematics education.
The department is highly active in research as demonstrated by publications in national and international refereed journals, invited and contributed presentations at national and international conferences, service on editorial boards and refereeing and reviewing activities.
Diverse Learning
The department strives to offer a diverse learning environment that allows our students to pursue their interests in the field of mathematics.
The Math Plaza in Maclellan Gym offers free tutoring services for all students enrolled in a 1000 and 2000 level mathematics course.
Pi Mu Epsilon, the Mathematics Honor Society, and the Math Club sponsors several events each year including Mathematics Movie Night, an annual Sudoku Tournament and the induction of new members during the department's Honor's Day Reception and Awards Ceremony.
An eight-week Research Experiences for Undergraduates, funded by the National Science Foundation, takes place on campus each summer, allowing undergraduate students the chance to conduct research with our faculty members.
The Department of Mathematics Colloquium Series offers a chance to hear about the most recent research in the field of mathematics conducted by both department faculty members as well as guest speakers from outside the university.
Each spring, the department sponsors a mathematics poster contest for area middle and high school students which exposes them to the many opportunities in the field of mathematics.
