- Who is this course for?
This is a non-credit course for members of the Chattanooga community who want to improve their English for professional purposes.
To fully benefit from this course, you should already have an intermediate level of English.
You’re probably ready for this course if you are able to:
- Have basic conversations in English about everyday topics, including your job.
- Understand general workplace instructions, even if you miss some details and/or sometimes have to ask for clarification.
- Write simple emails, messages, or notes that others can easily understand, even if you make some mistakes.
- Express your ideas in English, even if you make some mistakes and/or need to pause sometimes to find the right words.
You may not be ready for this course if you aren't yet able to:
- Talk about your job or daily life in English without a lot of help.
- Understand most of what other people say when they speak English at a normal speed.
- Write sentences in English that others can easily understand.
- Express your ideas in English without a lot of help.
You might benefit from one of our more advanced courses if you:
- Rarely make mistakes when speaking or writing in professional English.
- Feel confident giving presentations and leading meetings in English.
- Can participate in fast-paced workplace discussions that include complex language.
- Can independently write detailed reports, proposals, and/or professional emails in English.
NOTE: Because it does not fulfill academic credit hour requirements, this course is NOT for international students who are in the U.S. on an F-1 visa.
- How long is the course?
This is a 6-week course. You’ll attend class for 2 hours twice a week—receiving 24 total hours of instruction.
The first day of class is Monday, March 3rd, and the last day is Wednesday, April 9th.
- When will classes meet?
Classes are on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. You will also receive homework assignments to complete outside of class.
- How much does it cost?
At just $500 per 6-week session, this course is our most affordable option. The cost of your textbook is included in this fee.
The enrollment fee must be submitted as a single payment before the first day of class.

In this course, you’ll develop your English-language reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills—with a focus on how you’ll use them in the workplace. You’ll also learn useful vocabulary for professional settings.
