Areas of expertise:  Course and instructional design, multimedia production, copyright and fair use, online teaching strategies, effective college teaching and learning strategies, faculty development, active learning strategies, assessment of student learning.

 

Background: Karen was the founding director of the Walker Center for Teaching & Learning.  She has worked in the fields of instructional design, faculty development, and multimedia technology for over 25 years.  Prior to coming to UTC, she worked as an instructional developer at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. She taught art for five years (one year at the high school level; four years at the elementary level).

Baccalaureate Certificate in Biomedical Communication from the University of Nebraska Medical Center

Interests: Her research interests are faculty and instructional design and development; online teaching and learning; educational technology integration in higher education; user interface design; and copyright and fair use issues in higher education.
