Areas of expertise: Course and instructional design, multimedia production, copyright and fair use, online teaching strategies, effective college teaching and learning strategies, faculty development, active learning strategies, assessment of student learning.
Background: Karen was the founding director of the Walker Center for Teaching & Learning. She has worked in the fields of instructional design, faculty development, and multimedia technology for over 30 years. Prior to coming to UTC, she worked as an instructional developer at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. She taught art for five years in public schools (one year at the high school level; four years at the elementary level).
