Personal Leave
A regular employee may request an unpaid personal leave of absence that does not meet the eligibility for other established leaves of absence. Employees on personal leave are placed in a leave without pay status, which means they do not accrue annual and sick leave during that period.
Conditions of Leave
Employees are eligible for personal leave when the following conditions are met:
- They have exhausted all accrued vacation, sick, and compensatory time.
- They give assurance of their intent to return to university employment at the expiration of the leave.
- They give assurance that they are not requesting a Personal Leave to obtain employment outside the university.
How to Request Leave
An employee may request personal leave by submitting a request in writing to their supervisor. An initial request cannot exceed 30 calendar days. Approval of personal leave requests is made by the department, in consultation with Human Resources.
