Paid Parental Leave

The University supports work-life balance by providing eligible employees with up to six work weeks (30 days or 240 hours) of paid parental leave (PPL) for recovery from childbirth and to bond with their newborn or newly placed adopted or foster child.
Eligibility
This benefit is available to employees who meet the following criteria:
- Regular, active employees (including 9-month faculty) as defined in Human Resources policy HR0105
- Assigned to work at least 75%
- Employed for at least 12 consecutive months prior to the start of the requested leave
Qualifying Events
PPL may be used for any of the following life events:
- Birth of a child
- Placement of a minor child for adoption
- Placement of a minor child for foster care
How to Request Leave
To request PPL, employees should:
- Notify their supervisor and Human Resources as soon as possible.
- To formally initiate the PPL process, visit the HR Ticketing System in TeamDynamix to submit an FML ticket, and indicate the need for PPL in the description section.
- The employee will need to submit an FML Request Form and a Paid Parental Leave Form.
- The employee will be notified of their FML approval status after the request forms have been received and reviewed.
- NOTE: The employee is expected to communicate with their supervisor and properly report absences in DASH.
Conditions
- PPL may be used on a continuous or intermittent basis. Intermittent use must be discussed with and agreed upon by the supervisor.
- PPL must be used within 365 days of the child’s birth.
- Adoptive parents may use PPL before placement, if necessary, to fulfill the legal requirements of the adoption process.
- PPL and FML will run concurrently. Once PPL has ended, the employee may use sick and annual leave throughout the remainder of the approved FML.
