Crime, Arrest, & Fire Log
Crime, Arrest, and Fire Log
The purpose of the crime, arrest, and fire log is to record all criminal incidents and alleged criminal incidents, arrests, and fires reported to the UTC Police Department (UTCPD). This document combines the Clery Act Daily Crime & Fire Log, maintained in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act (20 U.S.C. § 1092(f); 34 CFR 668.46) and the Tennessee College and University Security Information Act Arrest Log (T.C.A. § 49-7-2206).
Incidents are generally posted within two business days of the information being reported to the Department of Public Safety. A business day is Monday through Friday, except for days when the institution is closed. The log lists incidents reported within the last 60 days, consistent with the Clery Act.
UTCPD assigns a case number for all reported activities, both criminal and non-criminal. Only case numbers generated for criminal activities are listed in the log. Reported crimes are listed in the order that they are received. Therefore, the case numbers are not listed sequentially. If no crime was reported on a certain date or if the reported incident is not considered a crime, the date will not be displayed or the incident will not be listed here.
Crime, Arrest, & Fire Log
Note: The offense classification found in the Crime, Arrest, and Fire Log will not match the crime statistics reported in the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report, as the crime log is compiled using the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) Uniform Crime Reporting Program, the National Incident-Based Reporting System Data Collection Guidelines, the Uniform Crime Reporting Hate Crime Data Collection Guidelines and Training Manual, and the Violence Against Women Act of 1994 as required by the Clery Act, as well as the Tennessee Annotated Code crime categories and definitions.
