About the UTC Police Department (UTCPD)
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) Police Department (UTCPD), a unit of the UTC Department of Police Safety (UTCDPS), is a full-serve law enforcement agency comprised of Police Officers, Security Officers, and Communications Officers. UTCPD Police Officers have the power to enforce all state laws, and the rules and regulations of the University, on all facilities and property owned, leased, or operated by the University, in addition to any public roads or rights-of-way that are contiguous to, within the perimeter of, or connect between the facilities, property, or interests of the University (T.C.A. § 49-7-118.).
UTCPD’s main objective is to provide a safe environment for students, employees, and visitors. UTCPD Police Officers perform a variety of tasks that include investigation of criminal activity, apprehension of criminals, accident and fire response, traffic enforcement, and security for special events. UTCPD also provides crime prevention programs such as bicycle and electronics registration, as well as educational programming to increase the safety of the community.

Accreditation
The UTC Police Department has been accredited by the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police (TACP) Tennessee Law Enforcement Accreditation (TLEA) program since 2019.
