Opportunities for Growth
UTC media

Ensuring employees have access to opportunities for personal and professional growth and development is essential to Total Organizational Health (TOH) for UTC. Celebrating learning and growth accomplishments is also important to building an organizational culture that supports TOH. Learning and growth helps keep this workforce vibrant and engaged, ensuring that our students and our campus and Chattanooga community benefit from our collective expertise.
Here are a few of many TOH-related resources here at UTC related to learning and growth opportunities for employees:
- UTC provides many opportunities for faculty and staff employees to pursue professional development. A major source of these opportunities is the University of Tennessee's K@TE Learning Management platform, which offers more than 300 e-learning courses. This resource empowers UTC employees to take ownership over their own professional development journey.
- UTC's Human Resources team also provides numerous professional development training opportunities throughout the year.
- Examples of courses that have been offered in the past cover topics such as, time management, dealing with stress, pressure, and burnout, workplace communication, workplace integrity, workplace distractions, developing a growth mindset, problem solving fundamentals, and scheduling 101.
- UTC's professional development resources cater to individual employees seeking self-paced courses or live workshops. Departments can also leverage these resources to foster shared growth experiences among team members. Furthermore, leaders can align courses with tailored professional development programs, empowering their teams to excel in their roles.
- The Walker Center for Teaching and Learning offers a wide range of faculty development and support programs that range from cohort-based to fully self-paced. These programs are designed to serve both new and more experienced faculty and highlight research-based best practices in teaching, disciplinary-specific pedagogy, and the teaching innovations of our own faculty at UTC.
- UTC's Career Development Fund supports non-exempt staff who are pursuing job and career-related development activities in activities that happen on or off the university campus.
- UTC's Faculty Grants support faculty members engaging in professional development activities or events on or off the university campus.
