Student Outreach and Support
If an individual is an immediate threat to self or others it should be considered an emergency and directed to the UTC Police Department at 423-425-HELP/4357 or 911.
The Office of Student Outreach & Support (SOS) advocates and supports students experiencing challenges in their personal and academic lives. SOS staff help students navigate University administrative processes; connect with University and community resources; and develop resiliency, self-advocacy, and coping skills. SOS also educates faculty and staff on how to work with students of concern, including when to make appropriate referrals.
If this is not an emergency and you would like to refer a student to our services, please submit a Community of Concern Referral Form.
Who might benefit from these services?
Students facing any sort of challenge or crisis may benefit from the services provided by SOS. Examples include, but are not limited to:
- Academic adjustment or performance
- Attempted suicide
- Death of a friend or family member
- Family emergency
- Financial insecurity
- Food insecurity
- Hate/bias related incidents
- Housing insecurity
- Housing issues
- Interpersonal violence or stalking
- Mental health concerns
- Missing or unresponsive student
- Physical illness/injury
- Sexual or physical assault
What services are offered?
Services include, but are not limited to:
- Support for students
- Coordination of services between UTC departments and off-campus services
- General consultation
- On-campus and off-campus resource referrals
- Emergency food assistance
- Emergency financial assistance
- Emergency housing (when available)
- Absence notifications
