Magnetic Flux and Nonlinear Quantum Waves on a Ring

Please join us in welcoming our next speaker, an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at UTC. Dr. Choi specializes in partial differential equations and harmonic analysis, having previously served on the faculty at the United States Military Academy after earning his PhD from Boston University.

Motivated by recent experiments demonstrating the optical Aharonov-Bohm effect, Dr. Choi's talk explores how synthetic magnetic fields influence nonlinear waves. By investigating the continuum limit of a twisted Discrete Nonlinear Schrödinger (DNLS) equation, he proves its convergence to the magnetic NLS equation on a ring. Ultimately, this presentation will highlight how magnetic flux fundamentally reorganizes both the linear spectrum and the stability of stationary solutions, bridging discrete topological photonics with the rigorous analysis of dispersive PDEs.​​​​​​​
