Faculty
Instruction Librarian, Department of Research and Public Service
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) Library invites applications for the position of Instruction Librarian. This is a tenure-track faculty appointment starting at the rank of Assistant Professor with a full-time, 12-month contract. UTC Library welcomes candidates new to the profession as well as experienced candidates to apply.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Department Head of Research and Public Services and Director of Research Services, this position will be responsible for:
- collaborating with librarians and faculty to deliver innovative instruction on research methods, information literacy, academic skills, and related topics;
- conducting one-on-one research consultations with faculty, staff, and students;
- participating in the development and maintenance of subject guides, tutorials, and other online materials relevant to instructional services;
- staffing the Research Services desk for approximately 6-8 hours per week;
- engaging in academic departmental liaison duties in specific subject areas to be determined;
- developing a scholarly research agenda consistent with a tenure-track appointment;
- contributing service efforts to the library, university, profession, and community.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess:
- a Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program by date of hire;
- the ability to teach in-person and online to groups of varying sizes and demographics;
- an understanding of current and emerging trends, concepts, and theories in library instruction and higher education;
- a demonstrated learner-oriented approach to instruction and other library services;
- a demonstrated ability to develop and manage projects both collaboratively and independently;
- the ability and commitment to conduct independent scholarship consistent with a tenure-track faculty appointment;
- the ability to contribute service based on the needs of the Library, the University, and the profession.
Desired Qualifications
Though not required, additional consideration will be given to candidates demonstrating the following:
- teaching experience and experience related to instructional design, instructional technologies, and pedagogy;
- experience with Canvas, Springshare, or similar instructional technology;
- experience engaging and serving diverse user populations and information environments;
- experience providing reference service in an academic setting.
