MGO FAQs
- How do I become a member of a MGO?
- Students who are interested in seeking membership in the MGO are encouraged to attend informationals and recruitment events hosted by the MGO throughout the semester. Attend the interest meeting or recruitment events of the organization for information about the membership process.
- What are the requirements to become a member?
- Requirements for membership vary from organization to organization. UTC requires that students interested in joining a fraternity or sorority affiliated with the university must have a minimum 2.5 cumulative High School GPA if they are an incoming freshman or a 2.5 cumulative college or transfer GPA if they are a returning or transferring student from another institution.
- How much does it cost?
- Cost varies from organization to organization, and the fees are subject to change at any time. The costs and fees include new member fees, chapter dues, national dues and initiation costs. More information can be found on the national website of the organization of interest.
- Do I have to be from a certain ethnic or racial background to become a member of the MGO organization?
- The Multicultural Greek Organizations have non-discriminatory policies and practices.
- How do I express my interest to join an organization to members?
- Students who are interested in joining a MGO are encouraged to express interest by attending chapter programs, events, and community service projects hosted by the organization.
- If I am a legacy, meaning my mom or dad is a member of the organization I want to join, does that mean I am automatically in?
- Being a legacy does not automatically guarantee membership into any organization. It is generally advised that you do not discuss legacy status to members especially in settings like chapter programs and community service projects. Discretion is important with MGO intake, so please exercise that concept in multiple areas, including sharing information about legacy status. Legacy students are still required to submit the appropriate application to the member organization of interest. Some organizations have specific forms for legacies to complete or places to indicate legacy status.
