Hispanic Heritage Networking Event & Musician Showcase

Latin Dance Night

Sponsors: Department of Modern & Classical Languages and Literatures, including Spanish and Latin American studies, and the Life Out Loud Residential Learning Community.
The songs and videos that make up the film were filmed, recorded and produced in Chattanooga and tell the story of a local Chattanoogan's journey to Colombia and also of a Colombian immigrant's journey to the United States. The artists who worked on the project, the producer and some of the people featured within it will be present to give an introduction and answer questions.

On a pilgrimage to his native country of Guatemala, a marriage and family therapist confronts his own childhood migration story to reconcile the risks his immigrant clients take on their journey to crossing the border.
A poignant documentary exploring the experience of young Guatemalan immigrants in the United States and the longing for reconnection with the places and people that made them. An exposition of the complex emotions experienced in crossing the Mexico/U.S. border and building a life away from their homeland, Someday Soon is a love letter to how, in the midst of desperation, yearning and grief, we always seem to somehow keep hope alive.

Dr. Cynthia E. Orozco is an award-winning and best-selling author, historian, museum, and film consultant, and public speaker. She is Professor Emeritus in History and Humanities at Eastern New Mexico University. Her books include No Mexicans, Women or Dogs Allowed: The Rise of the Mexican American Civil Rights Movement, the University of Texas Press’ best-selling academic book between 2010 and 2020. Agent of Change: Adela Sloss-Vento, Mexican American Civil Rights Activist and Texas Feminist and Pioneer of Mexican-American Civil Rights: Alonso S. Perales. Orozco was named a 2023 National Association for Chicana and Chicano Studies Scholar, and received the 2023 LULAC National Education Award.
