Biomechatronics and Assistive Technology Lab (BioAstLab)
Strive to Eliminate Barriers
The Biomechatronics and Assistive Technology Lab (BioAstLab) is where UTC students and faculty develop wearable robotics, prosthetics and rehabilitation tools for people with mobility challenges. It is one of two labs that support the UTC Mechatronics program and is the primary research arm of the Department of Engineering Management and Technology in the College of Engineering and Computer Science. BioAstLab researchers collaborate with clinical, academic and commercial partners on projects aimed at eliminating barriers to movement and daily function.
Led by Dr. Erkan Kaplanoglu, founding director and department head, the BioAstLab creates research roles for graduate and undergraduate students focused on developing technology that serves people and moves from the lab into practical settings.
