Campus Training and Events
- Combat Water Survival Training (CWST)
-
Cadets are required to participate in and pass this crucial but fun event – Combat Water Survival Training (CWST). This training allows Cadets to gain confidence in the water and teaches necessary skills to maneuver comfortably while donning and doffing equipment in deep waters. Cadet will conduct the submerged equipment ditch, 15-meter swim with equipment and weapon, 3-meter drop, and water tread.
- Field Training Exercises (FTXs)
-
UTC ROTC Cadets participate in a Field Training Exercise one weekend each semester. Cadets will join other Army ROTC programs in the 7th brigade to execute large-scale training scenarios to help prepare Cadets for CST and life in the Army. Cadets will perform a variety of training exercises including Basic Rifle Marksmanship, patrols, land-navigation, and team-building exercises. Cadet Leaders help to successfully execute test training exercises by assisting with planning the weekend, coordinating resources, and leading events.
- Morale Lab Exercises
-
An important aspect of military training includes some fun and games – morale-boosting labs, such as high ropes courses and paintball tournaments are planned and executed several times a year. These labs combine tactical training with exciting, team-building exercises.
- Dining Out
-
The UTC ROTC Mocs Battalion hosts a formal dinner function each spring known as the Dining Out. This training event embodies many Army traditions in a fun-filled night of food, awards, and camaraderie.
- Commissioning Ceremony
-
The Commissioning Ceremony serves as the final event for UTC ROTC Mocs Battalion Cadet. As the MSIVs graduate from the university, they also receive their commission as a second lieutenant in the US Army. Friends and family join the traditions of transitioning Cadets to Officers as they start the next chapter of their careers in the Army.
Summer Training Opportunities
- Airborne Training
-
Airborne Training is conducted at Fort Moore, GA. Airborne training is a highly selective three-week course designed to teach soldiers the basic skills needed to successfully parachute jump from a plane. The school awards the Army Basic Parachutist Badge to those who complete all training and their five parachute jumps.
- Air Assault Training
-
Air Assault Training teaches soldiers the intricacies of helicopter operations to include selection and establishment of helicopter landing zones, sling loading equipment for transport, and rappelling. This ten-day course is highly selective and culminates in a 12-mile foot march and, upon successful completion, awarding of the Air Assault Badge.
- Cadet Troop Leadership Training (CTLT)
-
Cadet Troop Leadership Training (CTLT) is a selective three-week program that embeds cadets into actual Army units in a variety of fields. Cadets who are selected “job shadow” a Second Lieutenant to observe what they will be doing upon graduation and commissioning. Cadets are placed in charge of Soldiers and can put their leadership skills into practice. This program is for MSIII Cadets only.
- Mountain Warfare School
-
Mountain Warfare School is on the slopes of Vermont’s Green Mountains. “Tough” is a good way of describing the winter phase of the Mountain Warfare School. In two weeks, soldiers learn to ski and snowshoe. They patrol through waist-deep snow, using altimeter barometers instead of compasses. They climb 30-feet walls of solid ice, perform crevasse rescues, and learn survival skills.
- Cadet Intern Program (CIP)
-
Cadet Intern Program (CIP), an initiative of ASA/MRA, allows cadets to work with the Department of the Army (DA), the Secretariat, Office of the Chief of Army Reserves (OCAR), National Guard Bureau (NGB), and the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) for three weeks. These cadets receive an OER at completion.
- Nurse Summer Training Program
-
Nurse Summer Training Program (NSTP) is only available to nurse cadets and provides opportunities to develop and practice a clinical phase of instruction at Army Medical Command Treatment Facilities worldwide. The cadets receive an OER upon completion.
