HEALTH AND HUMAN PERFORMANCE
High-Impact Practices Development Grant recipient Eric Hungenberg explores practical applications of sports nostalgia research at an organizational level. Desired outcomes include Identifying nuances in nostalgic responses across ballparks and demonstrating ways in which our understanding of nostalgia can inform an organization’s promotional strategies and stadium design. Students majoring in HHP Sport, Outdoor Recreation, and Tourism Management (SORT) are given the opportunity to register for this HHP 4999 - Independent Study course, called MiLB Fan Nostalgia. The course structure introduces students to research design, data collection, analysis, and application of fan nostalgia. Each phase provides learning tools which help achieve the study's goals and objectives above.
Students work directly with the Chattanooga Lookouts and possibly other MiLB organizations to conduct the research and discuss implications. Working in partnership with MiLB highlights the importance of understanding stakeholder interests when conducting market research.
