Senior Exit Exams
-
ETS Proficiency Profile Test
-
All graduating seniors must take the ETS Proficiency Profile exam in order to receive their diploma!
As part of our ongoing effort to upgrade the quality of our academic programs, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga requires all students to participate in a program designed to measure knowledge gained through general education courses.
As a part of this program, all undergraduate graduating seniors are required to take the ETS Proficiency Profile, a one hour, standardized multiple-choice test used to measure content areas related to basic general education (writing skills, mathematics, reading, science, and critical thinking). Aggregated results from these tests will help us to evaluate how well the University prepares students in areas of general education and thus improve the University's curriculum. Another important aspect of this test is the fact that crucial state funding for the UTC programs and services for students is directly linked to the scores of the examinees.
Exams are administered every Spring, Summer, and Fall semester. Those students WALKING in May and GRADUATING in August should take the exam during the summer administration.
Students who take the Senior Exit Exam and do not graduate DO NOT need to take the test again during their updated graduating semester. You only need to take the test once, regardless of the semester.
Registration & Fees:
Graduates will be contacted via email beginning the first week of their last semester at UTC. This email will provide a link to complete the exam. Please email [email protected] with any questions or concerns.
There is NO FEE to take the ETS Proficiency Profile exam.
Accommodations:
If you are a student registered with the Disability Resource Center at UTC, please email [email protected] for information on receiving accommodations for the Senior Exit Exam.
Students who fail to take the exam will not receive their diploma until it is taken. Students will still be able to walk at graduation and receive their transcripts. The student's paper diploma is the only item to remain on hold until the exit exam is completed. Once the Registrar Office is notified that the student has taken the exam, the student's diploma will be released to them.
