Carl Springer teaches UHON 3530—Topics in Thought, Values, Beliefs: HumorAfter earning his MA in Biblical Languages and PhD in Classics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, in 1984 Springer joined the faculty of the Department of Foreign Languages at Illinois State University. In 2000 he was named Associate Dean in the College of Arts and Sciences at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where he also served as Professor in the Department of English until 2015. Springer has received a number of awards in support of his scholarship, including a Fulbright grant (Belgium) and an Alexander von Humboldt fellowship in Germany. He has given numerous presentations of his scholarship in this country and abroad and has published many articles and books.
