MAcc Admissions
Admission Criteria
Admissions to the Master's in Accounting Programs are based on all of the following requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree
You must have earned a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university (any major is acceptable) or foreign equivalent and be in good academic standing at the last institution you attended.
- Overall Undergraduate GPA
To be considered for MAcc admission, applicants must meet one of the following requirements from a regionally accredited institution or foreign equivalent. All GPAs are based on a 4.0 point scale and are cumulative including all undergraduate courses completed; the last two years of undergraduate coursework are equivalent to approximately 60-70 semester hours or 90-100 quarter hours.
- 2.70 minimum GPA for all undergraduate work taken for the baccalaureate degree or
- 3.00 GPA for the last two years of undergraduate academic coursework or
- 3.00 GPA for 30 or more semester hours undergraduate credit after earning the first bachelor's degree or
- 2.70 GPA for the last two years of undergraduate coursework and a 3.00 GPA on fewer than 24 hours graduate coursework or
- 3.00 GPA for 24 or more graduate hours or
- An earned master's degree or higher-level degree with at least a 3.00 GPA.
- Accounting GPA
A minimum GPA of 3.0 for all undergraduate accounting coursework.
- Course Prerequisite Completion
Admission to the MAcc Program requires the completion of at least two of the six accounting background courses and all five business background courses listed under “MAcc Prerequisite Courses section below.
Students must have earned at least a grade of C in all of the prerequisite courses listed below (or an equivalent course from another AACSB accredited school). A grade of at least a B is required if the course was taken at a non-AACSB accredited school.
All 14 prerequisites must be completed prior to enrolling in more than 6 hours of graduate courses.

- ACC 3000 & ACC 3010 - Intermediate Accounting I & II
- ACC 3050 - Managerial Cost Accounting
- ACC 3070 - Federal Tax Accounting
- ACC 3080 - Accounting Information Systems
- ACC 4050 - Auditing
MAcc Degree Application Requirements
To complete your application you must submit the following:
- Application
Complete an online application at the UTC Graduate School's website.
- Statement of Purpose
Applicants will be prompted to enter a short statement of purpose when completing the online application. This should include the goals of the applicant as it relates to earning the MAcc degree.
- Official Transcripts
Submit official transcripts from each college or university attended (including those from whom transfer credits were earned) to UTC's Graduate School. To expedite the receipt of official transcripts, UTC recommends the use of an electronic transcript submission service such as:

- Application Fee
Pay a $35 one-time, non-refundable application fee. ($40 for international student applications).
- International Applicants
The online MAcc encourages qualified graduate applicants from other countries. The University has additional admission requirements and requires additional documents for international applicants. A concise list can be found on the Prospective International Student page under the “International Graduate Students” section. Application Deadlines
Applications and documents submitted after the UTC Graduate School's general application deadlines, which are listed below, will be considered for admission based on eligibility and program space availability. It is strongly recommended that interested applicants submit all application materials by these deadlines.
