Small Group Instructional Diagnosis (SGID)
The Walker Center for Teaching and Learning offers Small Group Instructional Diagnosis for UTC classes. This structured activity, usually held during 1 class period, allows formative feedback to be delivered to the instructor during the semester. The SGID is most beneficial after class has met for several weeks.
All SGID observations are voluntary and privacy is respected. Many faculty find the feedback that comes from this diagnostic tool impacts their teaching immediately, and by association, students appreciate their feedback having such a direct correlation.
*Demand for this service is rising, so faculty are asked to put in a request as early in the semester as possible.
SGID - How to get started
There are 3 steps to the SGID.
1. Request and plan day, date, time for the SGID (during 1 class period).
We will soon have an online form, but for now please email [email protected] to request SGID.
2. SGID session during the appointed class session.
Faculty should plan to leave the class alone with the facilitator for about 20-30 minutes during this part of the activity.
3. Post-SGID conversation with your facilitator.
A summarized report of student responses will be provided, along with detailed account of the teaching observation.
