Website Accessibility Statement
At UTC, we are committed to ensuring that our digital content is accessible to everyone—regardless of ability, background, or the technology they use. We actively work to meet or exceed the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. Efforts are currently underway to inventory digital assests, review compliance, improve accessibility, and communicate with stakeholders and content editors the importance and alignment of these efforts.
We also work in close partnership with the University of Tennessee System and its campuses to align our efforts and ensure system-wide compliance with WCAG 2.1 and other accessibility standards.
Our Commitment
We design and maintain our websites and digital tools to be:
- Perceivable – Content is provided in ways all users can understand, with features like image descriptions (alt text) and captions on videos.
- Operable – Users can navigate using a keyboard, screen reader, or other assistive technology.
- Understandable – Information is clear, consistent, and predictable.
- Robust – Our sites work well across browsers, devices, and assistive tools.
Ongoing Efforts
Accessibility is an ongoing priority. Our university continuously works to find and fix potential barriers in our digital content. We commit to the following:
- Run regular automated scans using Silktide, a digital accessibility and quality assurance platform.
- Conduct manual testing using screen readers and other tools to verify real-life usability.
- Train staff and content creators on accessibility best practices.
- Review new content and web designs to make sure accessibility is built in from the start.
