What is two-factor authentication?
With two-factor authentication (2FA), an attacker would need more than just your password to compromise your account. 2FA utilizes two methods to verify your identity when logging in:
- Something you know
- Something you have
2FA provides an extra layer of security by requiring your smartphone or hardware token for verification after entering your password. If you do not own a smartphone or tablet, click here.
Who will this impact?
- All students registered for Fall 2022 will be required to use Duo for 2FA. Going forward, new students will be required to enroll for 2FA the day after registering for classes for the first time.
- All current faculty and staff will be required to use Duo for 2FA. Faculty and staff will enroll for 2FA the first time they log into their account.
What services use Duo 2FA?
Duo is currently required for any system that uses University of Tennessee (UT) central login, such as Microsoft Office 365 and password resets. Starting in October 2022, Duo will be begin being rolled out to systems that use the UTC central login, such as MyMocsNet and MocsMail.
