Frequently Asked Questions
- Do I have to live in Tennessee and do my internship/placement in Tennessee?

- Will the B-HIP grant cover my internship if it takes place during the Summer semester?
No. The internship/placement must be completed in the Fall and Spring semesters.
- Does applying as soon as possible increase my chances of being selected?
Not necessarily. While it is encouraged to submit your B-HIP application as soon as possible, that has more to do with applicants waiting until the last minute to apply and losing valuable time to compose well thought-out responses to the three essay questions.
- How long do the essay question responses need to be?
There is no length requirement for essay responses; however, the responses need to reflect the full scope of your experience with serving rural populations and children, youth, or young adults as well as your experience in the mental and behavioral health field in which you specialize. Successful essay responses thus far have been approximately 200-300 words.
- What advice do you have for answering the essay questions?
First, be sure to answer the questions in a Word document as you cannot save them in the application and return later to finish. Second, include as much relevant information about yourself and your experience as is needed to fully flesh out your response. Third, read the question carefully and make sure your answer addresses it. Fourth, please use correct grammar and punctuation. Lastly, do one last edit of your responses, looking for unfinished sentences, missing words, misspelled words, and run-on sentences.
- Can I use AI to write my responses?
Do not use AI to write your responses. How you write, word choice, sentence structure and organization all play a role in painting a picture of who you are as a person.
