Prerequisites
Students who have completed a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year institution, and who have completed the required pre-requisite courses, are eligible for consideration for admission to the UTC GATP. Currently, we do not require a specific undergraduate degree for program admission, but a strong background in basic sciences is desirable.
Required and preferred pre-requisite courses are listed below. Students must obtain a “C” or better for the pre-requisite to be considered fulfilled. All pre-requisite coursework must also have been completed within the 8 years prior to enrolling in the first semester. Students who have pre-requisites that were completed outside the 8-year period may take the GRE to remain eligible for potential admission. The GRE must have been taken in the last 5 years to be considered valid.
Required & Preferred Pre-Requisite Courses :
- Biology (separate from A&P; 4 credits required, 8 credits preferred)
- Chemistry (4 credits required, 8 credits preferred)
- Physics (4 credits required, 8 credits preferred)
- Anatomy and Physiology (4 credits required, 8 credits preferred)
- Psychology (3 credits required)
- Kinesiology or Biomechanics (preferred but not required)
- Exercise Physiology (preferred but not required)
Coursework will be reviewed to determine if there are any deficiencies upon application. Students MUST submit course descriptions for pre-requisite courses. The GATP reserves the right to request course syllabi for greater confirmation about course content. It is imperative that the students have the equivalent of the required courses in order to satisfy the athletic training educational competencies set forth by the CAATE.
*A student may be considered for conditional admission to the program if he or she fails to meet any of the requirements outlined above at time of application, pending completion of the deficiencies.
