Thank you for your interest in the UTC Graduate Athletic Training Program (GATP)!
Why did you choose the UTC GATP?
- “I selected the UTC GATP because of performance numbers like the BOC first-time pass rate and the job placement after graduation.”
- “Because I knew the reputation they had of being the best and 100% pass rate first time on the BOC.”
- “At first, it was because UTC was the only in-state masters AT program available, but whenever I came for the fall interview, I realized I did not want to apply to any other programs. The atmosphere of the professors and current students provided an open invitation to get to know them and offered no false images of who they were or what they represent. It was a very candid environment, and I appreciated that.”
- “UTC has the richest history of all the TN programs, I have met alumni from several different programs, and the one from UTC that I met at a random track and field event left a lasting impression.”
- “I selected this program because I believed this program would mold me into a great athletic trainer. This program was in Tennessee so that is another reason why I wanted to come here. The passing rate on the BOC was amazing and I wanted to be a part of this program.”
Over the past 2 years, what learning experiences stand out in your mind?
- “I think my best learning experiences came from my clinical rotations because that was real life opposed to a simulation. For instance spine boarding.... I was a part of 2 different spine boarding situations in the past 2 years that made me confident to go out on my own than just being trained in a classroom with healthy people.”
- “The first simulation we did on the football practice field was amazing and so much fun. I also enjoyed our entire Seminar class when we did IVs, suturing, casting, etc.”
- “For me the E-care simulations have been the best. I am confident in my ability to recognize a catastrophic event and react appropriately.”
- “The simulations we do have really helped me become more comfortable with scenarios that hopefully I won't see that often in my practice. The biggest learning experience for me has been being taught that it is okay if you don't know something and that's its okay to let your athlete know that as well but that'll you will research it.”
- “The entirety of the program has stood out in my mind. Prior to being a part of the program, I did not learn things and their concepts. It was a rinse and repeat. This program has given me the ability to truly learn.”
What did you like about your experience in the UTC GATP?
- “Overall I have thoroughly enjoyed the staff, classes, experiences, and my time at clinical sites. I feel well prepared to graduate, and I feel as if I took full advantage of all opportunities that the GATP staff had to offer- which was above and beyond what I could have imagined. A major thanks to ALL of you for your support and love throughout the entire process. I really would not have made it through the last two years without you.”
- “Awesome experience, very glad I came here”
- “Over all I the experience was great. So much was learned and so many great experiences were had. Faculty were always supportive and helpful with education and beyond. There are so many different rotations in many settings, there is truly a taste of a little but of everything. I’m glad I chose UTC and they chose me.”
- “I am thankful for the opportunity to go through this level of quality of a program, but more importantly the connections I made while I was here.”
- “The experience of being the GATP has changed my life for the better. Not only am I going to be doing something I love everyday for the rest of my life but the relationship I have made are irreplaceable. I know you get what you put into the program but it's more than that. I'm so proud to say that I'll be a graduate of this program soon.”
