Application Process
Thank you for your interest in the UTC Graduate Athletic Training Program (GATP)!
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis starting September 1st each year. The GATP Admissions Committee will review verified applications as they are submitted between September 1 and April 1. Early applicants will receive priority consideration for admission.

- Three professional letters of recommendation
- A personal statement discussing why you are interested in athletic training
- A cover letter
- A resume or curriculum vitae
- Course descriptions for all pre-requisite coursework
- Short-answer responses to 5 prompts
- Application Rubric and Review

Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit all application materials as soon as possible. Cohort sizes range from 16-18 students.
Applicants will be ranked on the following criteria:
- Overall GPA (15%)
- Pre-requisite GPA (only those listed as “required”) (30%)
- Optional GRE scores (recommended for those with a Pre-Req GPA below 3.0)
- Letters of recommendation (15%)
- Completion of advanced sciences and/or “preferred” pre-requisites (10%)
- Writing quality (10%)
- Virtual Interview (10%)
Additional consideration will be given to students with any of the following backgrounds:
- Completion of a previous Master’s Degree
- Past military experience
- Work experience in an AT-related position
- Leadership roles held during undergraduate experience
- Research experience in AT or related field
- Participant in inter-collegiate athletics during undergrad
Application Review Process
- The GATP Admissions Committee, consisting of 4-6 current faculty and Preceptors will begin application review as applications are received.
- Qualified applicants will be asked to participate in a virtual interview with the GATP Admissions Committee
- Accepted candidates will be asked to reply within two weeks of their notification on whether they plan to enroll in the program. If a candidate does not reply, or declines the invitation, the position becomes vacant and the next candidate, in order of rank, will be notified.
- If there are more qualified applicants than openings, only the top applicants will be accepted. Candidates not accepted into the GATP will receive written notification via email by May 1st.

Eligible applicants are strongly encouraged to attend our campus Open House, which is typically held on a Friday afternoon in October. Dates for our Open House event can be found on the top of our home page and will be communicated via ATCAS for all current applicants.
