The Department of Public Safety offers a variety of Community Safety Training programs designed to educate and prepare students, employees, and affiliates to prevent, respond to, and recover from emergencies. Courses are led by experienced public safety professionals and cover topics such as active violence response, threat evaluation and reporting, self-defense, first aid, CPR/AED, Stop the Bleed, fire safety, and other personal safety topics. Many trainings are offered throughout the year, and departments or organizations may also request customized training tailored to their specific needs.

Items found on campus may be turned in to UTCPD for safekeeping. Found property is cataloged through Foundify, our online lost-and-found platform, making it easier for owners to search for and claim their belongings. Individuals may view reported found items and submit a claim through Foundify. Once ownership has been verified, property will be returned to its rightful owner. Unclaimed property is retained and disposed of in accordance with University policy and applicable regulations.

UTCPD offers a Personal Property Registration program to help protect your valuables, including electronics, bicycles, and other personal items. Registering your property allows us to assist you more effectively if it’s ever lost, damaged, or stolen. Participants can also receive registration stickers that help deter theft and make it easier to identify and return recovered items. To register, simply complete the form and pick up your registration stickers at the UTC Police Department, located in the Administrative Services Building at 400 Palmetto Street.

Records may also be requested in person at the UTCPD administrative offices, located in the UTC Administrative Services Building, 400 Palmetto Street, Chattanooga, TN 37403. Please note that records may not be immediately available.

The UTCPD Ride-Along Program offers members of the UTC community an opportunity to gain firsthand insight into University law enforcement operations. Participants accompany a police officer during a patrol shift to observe daily responsibilities, learn about the unique challenges of campus policing, and strengthen relationships between the department and the community. Individuals interested in participating must complete an application, waiver, and background screening. Participation is subject to approval by the Chief of Police or their designee.

UTCPD offers the Safety Escort Program, known as SafeRides, to help students, employees, and affiliates travel safely on campus. Individuals who have concerns about walking alone may request an escort by contacting the UTCPD Communications Center at (423) 425-HELP (4357). A Campus Safety Officer or Police Officer will provide an escort on foot, by golf cart, or by patrol vehicle as soon as possible. This program is designed to enhance personal safety and provide peace of mind while traveling between University buildings, residence halls, parking lots, and other campus destinations.

UTCPD works closely with University departments and event organizers to help ensure University events and events held at the University are safe, secure, and well-coordinated. Departments planning an event that requires police, security, traffic control, or other public safety support should submit a Special Event Safety & Security Request as early as possible. Early notification allows UTCPD to assess staffing needs, coordinate with campus and community partners, and develop appropriate plan to support a successful event.

In accordance with the Tennessee Sexual Offender and Violent Sexual Offender Registration, Verification and Tracking Act (T.C.A. §§ 40-39-201–218), individuals required to register as sexual offenders who become students, employees, volunteers, or establish a residence at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga must comply with all applicable Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) registration requirements. State law also requires these individuals to register with the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Police Department within 48 hours of establishing their affiliation with the University. Consistent with the federal Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act, information regarding registered sexual offenders who are enrolled, employed, residing, or volunteering at UTC is available through the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's Sexual Offender Registry website.
