The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Police Department meets its mission by offering the following services and resources:
Communications Center
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Police Department operations is supported by the Communications Center, which operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The University strongly encourages students, employees and visitors to accurately and promptly report crimes, suspicious activity and other public safety related emergencies to the UTC PD, which is the University’s primary reporting structure for crimes and emergencies.
Crime Prevention Programs
Student of Employee groups may invite Police Officers to speak on various crime and safety-related issues. Crime prevention programs are available on campus crime, sexual assault, alcohol and drug awareness, scam awareness, self-defense, walking safety, and bicycle security.

Investigative Services
Our Investigative Services staff are tasked with following leads developed during the initial reporting of criminal activity to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Police Department. Our Investigators are ready to respond anytime, day or night, to the needs of crime victims, or to the scene of criminal activity.
Lost and Found
The Lost and Found Department is located at 400 Palmetto St, Chattanooga, TN 37403. Between the hours of 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, Students, Faculty, Staff, and Visitors are encouraged to inquire about lost or misplaced articles. You may inquire in person or you can call our Communications Center (423-425-4357).
Items turned into Lost and Found are held for a minimum of 60 days.
Patrol Services
Patrol Officers provides the highest level of security and police assistance for 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Whether our officers patrol campus or the surrounding area in vehicles, bicycles, Segways or on foot; they perform a wide variety of duties and services not limited to this page.
Safe Ride Service
The UTC Police Department has an available escort service on campus during the academic year. Students, staff, and faculty may use this service to address any personal safety concerns by calling our Communication Center (423-425-4357). The escort may or may not be in a vehicle, as Campus Security Officers or Patrol Officers may often walk with the caller to a more comfortable location.
Sex Offender Registry
As required by the Tennessee Sexual Offender and Violence Sexual Offender Registration, Verification and Tracking Act (T.C.A. §§ 40-39-201 - 40-39-218), within forty-eight (48) hours becoming a student, becoming employed, establishing primary or secondary residency, or establishing a physical presence (volunteering) at an institution of higher education in the State of Tennessee, registered sex offenders, as defined by Tennessee Code, must complete or update the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) sexual offender registration/monitoring form. In addition, all registered sex offenders must also register with the law enforcement agency of any institution of higher education [UTC Police Department].
In accordance with the federal Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act (42 U.S.C. 14071(J)), members of the University community may obtain the most recent information received from the TBI concerning sex offenders enrolled, employed, residing, or volunteering at the University at the Department of Public Safety. Information is also available on the Tennessee Sexual Offender Registry website.
