UTC Police Department
About
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) Police Department (UTCPD), a unit of the UTC Department of Police Safety (UTCDPS), is a full-service law enforcement agency comprised of sworn Police Officers, non-sworn Campus Safety Officers, and Communications Officers. UTCPD Police Officers are fully certified law enforcement officers with the authority to enforce all applicable state laws, as well as University rules and regulations. This authority extends to all facilities and property owned, leased, or operated by the University, along with public roads and rights-of-way that are contiguous to, within the perimeter of, or that connect University property, in accordance with Tennessee law (T.C.A. § 49-7-118).
UTCPD’s primary mission is to provide a safe and secure environment for students, employees, and visitors. The Department has a wide range of responsibilities, including investigating criminal activity, enforcing traffic laws, responding to accidents and fires, and providing security for special events. In addition to enforcement and response functions, UTCPD emphasizes prevention and education. The Department offers crime prevention services, including personal property registration, and educational programs that enhance safety awareness and promote a culture of shared responsibility across the UTC community.
